Low carb boot camp as a vegetarian and all the fat and calories?

FlatEarthling · 29/03/2021 10:28

I have lots of weight to lose and I'm down 21lbs already I'm tempted to try the low carb boot camp.
There are some great vegetarian recipes posted by BIWI and others but I wondered how it all fits into family life, no one else here is fat?

And... a life time of thinking about calories and fat, how can I shift the mindset?

Shall I try?

Yes you definitely should.

If you are vegetarian then almost all healthy, natural sources of protein will be high in carbs too. Egg is probably the one exception. For that reason I would say a healthy unprocessed veg diet doesn’t need to be low carb. The reason why people of south asian origin follow it is because many south asian veg diets are unbalanced and contain a lot of fried food and processed flour. That’s why you tend to find lots of recipies. But if you’re eating the rainbow then don’t change to a more restrictive diet

It’s not restrictive at all.

You can keep it low enough to lose weight, and still get plenty of nutrients.

(However I do agree that a healthy, unprocessed veg diet doesn’t have to be low carb! But it’s probably worth a try if the idea is appealing to you.)

It's harder as a veggie, because you'll inevitably be consuming more carbs than if you were eating meat/fish. But it's entirely possible! Check out Rose Elliot's vegetarian low carb diet There's also a great recipe book that goes with this.

Re fat/calories - the best way to 'reset' is to read as much as you can about low carbing, so that you understand the science behind it.

Escape The Diet Trap by Dr John Briffa is an easy introduction.

A bit late to this conversation but having the same issue. No meat and no carb means hungry... Keto breads, eggs, "pasta and rice" from cauliflower and courgette have been my saviour. Banana "pancakes" too. Also avocado fills you up. Any tips anyone?

Tofu is my friend! Lots of green leafy veggies, avo, zucchinis, anything involving cauliflower, kale chips, konjac "pasta",
I don't eat eggs so cheese is my treat but that has more fat/calories than ideal!
