Losing weight but not inches

I’m in the early days of Keto and it’s going well, I’ve lost 10lb in about 12 days. But I don’t think my body has got any smaller. 1/2 inch loss on my waist at most, but I’ve not been measuring other body parts to be fair, as my waist is my main concern.
Is it too soon to see a difference? I’m short and very obese if it makes any difference, BMI just over 40.

When I first started I was 20 stone it took until probably around 2 or 3 stone to really see a difference in my shape and inches.

Keep going don't be disheartened and remember to do weights to tone your body, helps avoid any loose skin too.

Thanks @cyclingmad, I have been looking into weight training. Do you do ‘heavy lifting’ or lighter with higher reps? I keep reading contradictory information as to what’s best.

I have a 4kg kettlebell and do 30mins with that. You do more weight less reps to build muscle and lower weight more reps to tone.

If you get a kettlebell and follow any 30min youtube video or fitness class it will cover most of your muscles in one session.

Then you can go freestyle and make your own program up. In my class (precovid) we would do one move 4 times with 16reps in each, burned your muscles out but toned me up quick. Then as I got stronger I moved up the weight to 6kg.

When you are very overweight, it can take a while before the weight loss is really noticeable. Especially when you are starting keto, you lose a lot of water weight as well as fat.
You are probably losing fat from parts you do not / cannot routinely measure (back fat for example).
Well done for your loss so far!

I have a BMI of over 40 and have lost three stone. I’ve only just been able to start seeing small changes - so small that I’m not sure if I’m making things up. Ive lost nearly 15% of my body weight but it just seems to have disappeared into thin air. It’s so discouraging but I’m going to plow on and hopefully I’ll see changes soon.

I think it's already been mentioned but when you start a new diet, the majority of the weight that you lose at the start is water weight. Also when you're quite overweight (like myself) it can mean you have to lose a lot more than someone smaller to notice the difference. When I lose weight, I find other people notice it more than me until I've lost a substantial amount.

Thanks all. This gives me some reassurance.

Remember you lose fat from all over your body so it will take a while to show up on any one single measurement. I'd recommend measuring at least your bust, waist and hips to be able to keep track better. When I was losing weight I noticed my measurements would change at different times to each other, not all at once.

YY to all of the above.

I'm the opposite. I've lost hardly any weight but am getting thinner.

I've been doing low carb and 16:8 with lots of cardio.

Maybe try 16:8 for a week? It's supposed to be effective against visceral fat in the abdomen.

Ideclarethumbwar · 10/03/2021 12:20

Thanks both. Yes I do 16:8, sometimes up to 23hr fasts. And keep to 800-1000kcals. I’ll just keep up what I’m doing, bound to happen eventually! I’ve since recorded a 1 inch loss around my abdomen which I think is great for 2 weeks.
