Can I do LC with lots of veg and little dairy?

I’m seriously thinking about doing low carb after Christmas.
I’ve done it before and came across a few things that I didn’t like about it.

Mainly, I love to eat veg and most LC diets most of my favourite ones.

Also, dairy doesn’t agree with me at all (I think I’m intolerant) so how can I get my fats without dairy?

Nuts
Tossing your veg in olive oil
Also worth getting some linseed oil for the omega-3 content.

If you want to be seriously low carb though a lot of veg are out or only in low quantities is they are always going to be intrinsically high carb. What makes you think the loe carb diet is the right option for you?

Do you eat meat? Although you don't mention being vegetarian in the OP it would certainly be easy to get fat from meat.

I’ve tried LC before and felt really good on it for a while, but missed my veggies and it’s not something I would want to forgo again.

I wonder if I could just do ‘lazy’ or ‘dirty’ LC in terms of eating more veggies than usual.

Oh, and no I’m definitely not a vegetarian!

I do - I am very lactose intolerant, so I buy lacto-free cheese and yoghurt and Philly. Yoghurt stands in for creme fraiche.

You could try something like keto that is lower carbs but not as low as Atkins

Thanks @BobbinThreadbare123 it’s good to see someone else doing it that way.

I just did reduced mainstream carbs - no potatoes, rice, pasta etc. Ate as much vegetables otherwise as I liked with exception of butternut and sweet potato which I limited as seemed a bit too similar.

I was just trying to reduce calories and also at night especially I felt carbs were not ideal. I stopped for various reasons but have stuck with reduced carbs and have been much much better about not having huge piles of pasta/rice etc.

@SpaceOp that’s kind of what I’m thinking of doing too.
Have you lost much weight doing this?

I did at the time. I stopped it for a while lot of reasons, not least was eating too much fat. But it did work broadly and I have applied the principals which is good.

Why don't you come and do Bootcamp? I'll be starting the next one in January, probably around the middle of the month.

Plenty of veg is allowed - in fact, one of the rules is that most of your carbs should come from veg and salad.

Plenty of ways to get fat without dairy. Firstly, butter - which doesn't count as dairy. Avocados are great, along with avocado oil. And also olive oil and coconut oil, and lard.

Mayonnaise is a great one - especially if you make your own, when you know the carbs will be minimal.

Bookaholic73 · 01/12/2020 10:53

@BIWI thanks for that. I’ll definitely join the new LC thread in January. It sounds like just what I need.

I love how a LC diet almost completely eliminates my sugar cravings, so that’s my main reason to follow that specific way of eating.

Sounds like a paleo diet would suit you. I first tried it years ago and completely lost my sugar cravings, I can now have chocolate in the house for other people rather than devouring it all myself. I mostly eat that way all the time now and don’t miss bread, pasta etc.

How about high GI diet?
