Anyone carnivore?

Ive decided to try carnivore for a few weeks to see if I can budge a weight stall. I’m also interested in the positive things I’ve heard in regard to it lowering inflammation in autoimmune conditions.

So far I’m not finding it difficult plus my scales have moved downwards again.

Just to add I was already farmer adapted as I’ve been Keto for a few months. This is probably why I haven’t found the transition too difficult.

*fat adapted 🙄

I was wondering what farmer adapted was!

justanotherneighinparadise · 08/09/2020 07:23

Well this has been a fascinating couple of days. The weight has dropped off and I am pretty much never hungry. I knew thar carbs triggered the hunger hormones but I had no idea how strange it feels to never be hungry! It’s so weird. Particularly as on a standard western diet I was constantly hungry.

Seems to work then, I think this explains why you never see a fat lion in the wild.

hamstersarse · 08/09/2020 07:58

I’ve been keto a few years and am tempted to try carnivore just to see if you can feel even better

I hear great things about energy and mental clarity on carnivore.

I’ve been doing some big reset fasts recommended by Mindy peltz and feeling great but I’m feeling like I want to test how far you can use food to maximise your health even more because it just keeps getting better and better...carnivore may be the next test!

What have you been eating? Any butter? Cheese? Fatty cuts or lean cuts?

GeorgeMichaelsEspadrille · 08/09/2020 08:13

Tried it (also fat adapted) and didnt last long as I missed my veggies and found it very difficult with family meals etc. Interesting to hear your experiences though. I'm not completely convinced by the science around it for long term use, but for short term weight loss it sounds promising.

Amazed there hasn't been anyone on to say "everything in moderation " yet!!

It’s because this thread is tucked away in Low Carb. If this was in AIBU I’d have expired under the weight of furious people accusing me of literal violence.

In terms of food it’s difficult to eat very much. At the most you manage two meals a day. I used to try and IF on Keto but I’d often feel hungry and times. With zero carb your hunger just ups and leaves. You fast because you literally can’t eat anymore. I like the lion analogy, I think there’s a huge amount of truth to that!

I have been researching and joined lots of Facebook groups and have started listening to a carnivore podcast. It seems that everyone does it slightly differently. I’m in the very early stages and my main motivation is fat loss but also to keep good energy and mood. Yesterday I had a couple of high protein sausages and ground beef with avocado. Plus cream in my hot drinks. Today I’m having slow cooked beef with Parmesan sprinkled over the top hard cheese is acceptable to many, as are eggs and cream. I’m just feeling my way through and seeing if the weight loss continues. I also went to the butcher to buy organ meats as they say with carnivore you want to eat nose to tail. I’ve asked for them to be minced abd I’m going to add them to ground beef. Again I’ve no idea if this will be nice or not. I like liver and kidney but haven’t eaten them in ages.

So it’s now 5.30pm and I haven’t managed to eat anything else today since the food I ate at 10.30am. I’m still so full I can’t imagine eating and feel a bit 🤢 at the thought of it.

It reminds me of the American TV show where the guy takes on those food challenges and normally lost them as he hit a wall (or threw up). That’s the feeling. If someone offered me money to eat anymore protein today I think I’d only have a few mouthfuls in me and I wouldn’t be able to do anymore. So it’s definitely an interesting thing to do but there’s no way I could keep it up long term.

I’m very interested but not yet farmer-adapted. Grin I was following CarnivoreMD on Instagram. Is there anyone else you’d recommend, or books, if you don’t mind? Had a tiny bit of hummus last night and felt nauseous for hours so I’m definitely not one of life’s pulse fanatics...

justanotherneighinparadise · 08/09/2020 21:08

Paul Saladino and Shawn Baker seem to be the well known ones but I know there’s lots more. There’s a few women. One called Georgia and I think a lady called Amy Berg.

So I thought I’d update even though it’s not a great update. I literally cannot eat. I’ve managed a tiny bit of left over beef from yesterday but I can’t do it, my body has completely rejected the concept of anymore protein or fat, and this is from someone who LOVED fat. It’s totally bizarre. I did a Keto strip this morning and it’s the darkest one. So whether it’s a Ketosis thing I don’t know. Not sure what my plan is now as I obviously need to go back to Keto but it needs to be a variant that will still get me fat burning.

I’m keto but it’s really interesting what you are saying.
I’d heard of an (awful) experiment that tried to make prisoners overweight by testing different macros. The carb loaded unlimited eating piled on weight really easily. But the group who were fed only pork chops literally couldn’t eat any more after a few days.

It reminds me of the Protein Hypothesis which is essentially that humans will just eat and eat until their protein is satiated. It’s a little at odds with the keto philosophy that it’s fat that satiates but then again in total alignment that carbs make you hungry and fat!

I still can’t eat properly, it’s odd. I just have zero appetite. On the one hand I’m sure I’ll lose weight but on the other hand it’s a very peculiar feeling to have no interest in food at all.

I’ve heard of it in that deep Ketosis can cause people to fast for s long time. I’m just not convinced it’s healthy!

OP posts:
justanotherneighinparadise · 12/09/2020 13:33

Thought I’d update again lol. My appetite came back! I have now got a cold so I wonder if that might have some bearing on it things. I don’t know 🤷‍♀️

Anyway. I dropped two pound so am
Now 10stone 13 against my highest weight of 12 stone 3 last year. I’m peri menopausal so I know that dropping weight becomes really tricky around this age group. My plan is now to keep as high protein/ carnivore as I can but I’m going to add in red pepper and avocados for vitamin c.

I’m convinced the cream I’ve been adding to my drinks have halted the weight loss again. Cream is very carnivore but it’s super high calories. Plus when I listen to the experts they all say dairy tends to me the thing that stops weight gain for women my age. So because having a hot drink is really key for me to be happy on any WOE I’ve decided to replace cream with either coconut or almond milk. I’m going to have a good look to see what’s the most optimum.

Anyway that’s the plan for this week. I shall report back 🤭
