Do you gain when you stop low carb?

I am considering going back to a low carb diet after not losing weight at Slimming world and not being able to fast 2 at the moment and wanting to constantly snack now I'm at home on lockdown. I wondered if people could tell me their experience of losing weight and actually keeping it off please? I'm 48, menopausal and weight sat around my middle with around a stone and a half to lose and need something that will motivate me with some good results.

Yes you can. If you start shovelling potatoes, bread, cakes, pasta and sugar into yourself again your body will respond by putting on weight. If you increase carbs slowly, keeping it mainly to healthy ones, and only up to the threshold that works for your body (it’s different for everyone) then it’s perfectly possible to maintain. But no ‘diet’ (low carb is actually a lifestyle change, imo) works if you don’t broadly stick to it long term.

I lost three stone in three months some years ago and broadly speaking have kept it off. I fluctuate by about a stone depending on how careful I’m being.

Thank you that's great to know. I don't eat masses of carbs any way so feel this is the right way of life for me but don't want to completely cut out one food group long term but happy to do it quite drastically to get the extra weight off and keep it off. I can see that smacking is my downfall especially during lockdown and need to address this without feeling deprived and hungry.
