Low carb milk alternatives

I am trying to eat a moderately low carb, low calorie diet. It's going well and I've successfully given up rice, potatoes, pasta and obvious sugar for over a month.
I can't, however, give up my milky coffees. I like 3-4 small mugs a day but was SHOCKED to discover each has about 12g of carbs (and to find skimmed milk has more carbs than full fat, though fewer calories). What can I use instead to make a nice milky coffee that won't be so carb-heavy?

Most of the keto diets suggest using half cream half water but as i'm trying to keep the calories down too, this is no good for me.

Anyone recommend which milk alternative ( hemp? oat? almond etc) makes a tasty milky coffee and doesn't split when heated?
What about lactose free milk? Is this always sweetened?
Any suggestions welcome!

Alpro unsweetened almond milk is a good alternative.

Lacto free is definitely a viable option for coffee. The almond milk I find you need loads of it to make a drink even normal colour, so if you like it milky it would likely be cold by the time you've added enough of it to make it the right colour.

Thanks both- have tried and not liked hemp milk (eughhh) and soya milk (bleughhhhh).
May try almond next but have discovered Lactofree milk. Somehow it has all the calories of ordinary milk yet almost half the carbsHmm...
I don't understand it... but it looks like milk, it tastes like milk, because it IS milk and it makes a very nice milky coffee (plus I can buy it in my local Coop).

Glad you found something.

If a milky coffee is the goal then the lacto free will be much better. I tried almond milk in my coffee a couple of times, it either took a gallon of the stuff to make it even remotely milky or it split and looked revolting!

Glad you found something that works :)

Lactose is the sugar in milk (the ose ending is the clue) so if the milk is lactose free... I make lattes with almond milk. I have one in the morning then drink black coffee. I can't stomach it in tea so have a bit of semi skimmed milk.

Why not use cream? I know you're worried about calories, but you don't need very much cream to make a really creamy coffee!

Whole milk contains about 5g of carbs per 100ml, so those 3-4 cups can't be all that small!

Given that a latte is hot milk with an espresso mixed in, even a small one is mainly milk.
