Anyone want to join me low carbing?

I've followed a low carb diet before quite successfully but over the past two years have put on 2 stone. Ideally I need to lose 2.5 stone but even a stone would help. At the moment none of my clothes fit and I feel heavy and lethargic. I know that I feel better if I don't eat bread and sugary things. If I eat what I want I'd live off bread!

Yesterday and today I've done quite well.

Saturday:
Lunch : omelette with cherry tomatoes and cheese with a tsp of sour cream and chive dip
Dinner: chicken stir fry with a spoon of rice
Snacks: a few slices of parma ham, a Magnum double raspberry Blush - it was very hot! - , a few strawberries

Sunday:
Lunch: omelette with cherry tomatoes and cheese and sour cream
Dinner: roast chicken with cauliflower and broccoli, 3 small sweet potato wedges, peas and green beans
Snacks: a few strawberries, a few slices of salami, 2 dark chocolate violet creams

Its better than before but not perfect. On the other hand if I eat a really strict diet ill just give up so occasionally I'm going to allow myself the odd small treat.

I weighed myself this morning, I'm 12 stone 12 (At 5 feet 7).

Anyway ... Anyone fancy joining me for support?

I tried being really strict and having an almost zero carb diet, it didn't work and I didn't stick to it. What I found has worked for me is a 30g portion of bran flakes keeps me full till lunch, and stops me picking because it keeps my sugars level. I then have a salad of some sort for lunch bit a small one with a single slice of lidl seeded bread which is less than 15g of carbs. Again it sets me up till I have a big salad at tea. I aim for less than 50g of carbs a day but I count everything on mfp so even salad is logged for carbs. I've lost almost 9kg so far since end of Feb doing it that way and I have quite a few weeks off where I cheated a lot Hmm

I've been doing slimming world sp which is basically low carb. I have lost a few pounds and have just over a stone left.

I basically aim for half my plate to be vegetables and half protein - I eat loads of eggs, salmon, tofu, cottage cheese. No meat as until recently I was vegan.

Snack on berries and wine

It seems to be working so far, slowly but surely. I have always found eating fewer carbs resulted in better weight loss, even more so now I am older and as of next month officially menopausal.

I'm on the Michael Mosley 8week Blood Sugar Diet which takes quite a lot of the thinking out of it!😊

It's very early days, I started at 14st 2lbs (at 5'6"!); I've lost 8.5-9lbs in 2 weeks but I fell off the wagon twice with way too much wine... I will do this for the rest of the 8 weeks and see where I am then.

I’ll join you!

I’m also not up for boot camp style LCHF right now. If I’m too restrictive I feel really sick by the third or fourth day and then pig out on All The Carbs.

I’m also breastfeeding atm, so I just can’t do ‘proper’ low carb as well. Ok, I could, I just don’t want to.

I have a wedding to attend in a few weeks and would love to lose half a stone.

I’m a smidgen under 12 stone just now and am 5’8”. So very similar to you op!

I’ll start tomorrow Smile.

Itsmeaga1n · 28/05/2018 21:51

Great to have some company!

I'm going to stay away from chocolate if at all possible because it just makes me want more!

I can't eat bran flakes - they aggravate my IBS.

Today:

Lunch:
3 egg omelette with tomato and cheese and a small spoon of sour cream
Dinner: cold roast chicken, a slice of Parma ham, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, mayonnaise, cauliflower and fried mushrooms
Snacks: 4 strawberries, a slice of Parma ham

Quite happy with that.

Good luck everyone. Feel free to post what you've eaten here if it helps. I'll continue to do so.

Good stuff op! I hope I can manage not to fall off the wagon Blush.

Plan today;

B: boiled eggs and avocado
L: halloumi salad
D: aubergine and mozzarella bake www.bbc.com/food/recipes/aubergine_and_mozzarella_51464

Snacks:

One / some of these -

  • prawns and garlic mayo
  • some ham / turkey / whatever I find at the shops later
  • stewed rhubarb (bought some at the local pick your own farm at the weekend) and creme fraiche
  • maybe a piece of fruit, as I’m trying not to be too strict and don’t really want to put my eldest dc off fruit by refusing to eat it! I’ll just limit myself to one plus the rhubarb, which I think might actually be a vegetable anyway

Also, I’m sort of having a general well-being health kick. So I’m trying to do some exercise every day, (yoga or interval training with weights) and am going to put down my —fucking— smart phone! It’s so addictive and I get nothing done when I’m on it.

I don’t know why I’m telling you this. I’m sure it’s of zero interest! But it might be good for me to write it somewhere so I feel some sort of sense of accountability.

I got to work really early today, forgetting it was half term, so took a brisk walk down to Tesco to buy raspberries and boiled egg with spinach.

Dinner tonight is an bunless beetroot burger and salad.

SentToTheSynByn · 29/05/2018 09:06

And I just took the stairs instead of the lift 😇

Itsmeaga1n · 30/05/2018 03:29

Well done both!

I walked into town and back - 20 mins brisk walk each way.

However food wise I've failed already... I've eaten far too much and had some peanut butter ... it was Whole Earth so sugar free but still had too much.

Breakfast:
3 egg omelette with tomato and cheese

Dinner:
2 steak burgers with a little cheese, a salad of celery, cucumber, avocado, a few nuts, cherry tomato, a couple of tiny cubes of cheese and home made dressing of olive oil (lemon infused from M&S, very nice) with white wine vinegar and salt and pepper.

Snacks:
Olives, a few almonds, 3 strawberries, a slice of parma ham, peanut butter Blush

So tomorrow I won't touch the peanut butter.

Felt pretty crappy today, drained and achy, might be carb flu.

I agree about the smart phone thing, cakewars. I spend far too much time on mine, wish I could get rid of it tbh but its my only way to stay in touch with my 2 oldest who dont live at home.

I don’t think the quantity matters so much with low carb op. I’m sure I’ve been told off at boot camp before for not consuming enough!

I did my weights yesterday, plus a short, brisk walk, followed by a much slower walk (nursery run; dd walks with me on the way home and we have to go slow with her. I did carry her some of the way though as well as pushing the pram Confused).

Plan today:

B: compote made from rhubarb, berries, ginger and a little orange juice plus a blob of soured cream
L: haven’t really decided, but some sort of salad, maybe with ham and eggs
D: crustless quiche and salad

Snacks: boiled eggs, Greek yoghurt, bits of cheese

Good luck everyone!

Itsmeaga1n · 30/05/2018 15:36

True ... but I've been beating myself up all night about the peanut butter.

I made some lactofree natural yoghurt last night, looking forward to trying it with a few chopped up strawberries.

Lunch was a 3 egg omelette with tomato and cheese.
Dinner will be poached salmon with cauliflower cheese.
Snacks will be natural yoghurt with strawberries, olives, cherry tomatoes.

I weighed myself today and am the same weight as last week. I blame bank holiday as I drank too much wine. At least I didn't gain like last BH. It's so unfair that there are two so close together.

Anyway, I'm going to be extra careful this week.

CakeWars · 31/05/2018 08:22

Hey all!

Just to let you know, I’m bowing out of this thread, as my milk supply and energy levels took a nose dive yesterday and I think it may be due to diet. I’m still going to be reducing carbs a little, and eating more salads etc. But I won’t bother you on here with it, as don’t think I’ll be as dedicated as you all.

All the best with it Smile!

Itsmeaga1n · 31/05/2018 13:03

Oh no cakewars sorry to hear that, hope your milk supply is back to normal soon.

senttothesynbin yes it could be the wine.

I had a bad day yesterday and succumbed to a small alcoholic drink! However I'm one pound down today so that's fine. At least I didn't eat chocolate!

Itsmeaga1n · 05/06/2018 02:18

I've had a rubbish day today: weighed myself this morning and I've put 2 lbs back on. I've craved sweet stuff all day and succumbed to the digestive biscuits tonight because I felt it was all a waste of time ... my stomach is no flatter Sad

Going to try and pick myself up and start again tomorrow. I hate myself and the way I look so I have to do something about it. I thought I was doing well, logging everything on mfp and coming in under 1200 kcals per day and generally low carb. But its obviously not enough.

I’m trying to cut out carbs at least one meal a day.

I’ve discovered Iceland do these ‘veg rice’.
veg rice

You just microwave them. There’s loads in a pouch so I fill my plate with them. Also, Iceland do frozen cauliflower rice.

Also, I buy frozen butternut squash, and frozen sweet potato chunks from Tesco and roast them in the oven.

Aiming to loose weight before holiday in a months time (where I shall probably put it all back on!)
