Lowest carb CRUNCHY thingies please

I’m thinking about doing low carb. I did it 15 years ago, was great for 6 months when I couldn’t take life without cake or crunchy things.

I want to do it gentler this time and I’m hoping food replacements have improved since I had to order Atkins bars from America Hmm

So I need a replacement ‘sandwich’ that I can buy from Pret etc. No, a salad or iceberg as bread won’t cut it - I want a sandwich. I’m on the go and will not be carrying food apart from babybels round with me.

There must be a low carb sandwich available out there in M and S/Pret/costA etc?

Something to have as the third thing on the plate along with salmon and mountains of veg - I’d normally go for rice, cous cous or potato - any low carb thingy that makes sense?

I’m not going to be doing it unless I can do it easily - I don’t cook any more so it’s all pre prepared stuff I buy. I also don’t really eat meat or quorn. Actually I hate quorn.

My current diet is peanut butter on toast, oat milk
Lunch - a sandwich
Dinner - salmon, potatoes, fuck tons of veg
Evil evening snack habit - French fry crisps, fuck tons of cheese, wine

Hence why I’m considering lower carb again as I’m not doing without cheese

Someone on the Boot Camp thread (in the Low Carb Boot Camp topic) has just mentioned making this Rosemary & Garlic "focaccia" and said it was very successful.

Would that be a suitable vehicle for sandwiches?

Sorry - just saw that you don't cook any more.

Many supermarkets now stock frozen celeriac or cauliflower "rice" which can be your "third" item on your plate when fried in butter.

There are some high protein breads/rolls that can be bought (Lidl does a good high protein roll) but they tend to be better warm so not really suitable for sandwiches.

Pork crunch from home bargains if your UK, lower fat pork scratching.

I’ve also changed my mind about the ‘cooking’ as dh woke up fat on Saturday and decided he’s going to batch cook with me.

You can buy usually courgette spaghetti in the big supermarkets just don't over cook it.

M&S now do high protein lentil noodles in the stir fry offer, still got carbs but a compromise? Got past DH & DS no problem Wink.

Lidl sell high protein rolls. They're quite nice and can be toasted.

The Lidl protein rolls are fine at room temp, although nicer toasted, they are very filling.

How long do the Lidl protein rolls keep at room temp? I'd have to make a special trip to buy one. Do they come in packets? Freeze well? They sound good.

I was thinking of trying the Hi-Lo bread that is apparently available from Waitrose, and toasting a slice - sort of crunchy? Or for carrying for lunch, maybe one slice with various fillings to make an open faced sandwich? I doubt it's low enough carb to have two to make a normal sandwich.

The Lidl rolls freeze well. Maybe slice them in half and then freeze them so that you can toast straight from frozen.

I know you said you don't want to cook but these swedish breakfast buns are really quick and easy to cook and last for ages in a container the fridge.

They are about 4 net carbs a bun and are so filling I just about manage to eat a whole one. I had one for breakfast with butter and and one for lunch with ham. It's now tea time and I am in no way ready for my evening meal.

Lovely with butter or dipped in soup. I also slice them up and toast them to have under an egg or just dripping with butter! mmmm!
About the most bready type thing I have found.

One word of warning though- they don't really look like the picture- Mine always turn out a sort of strange purply colour- think it's the psyllium husk I bought!
