Starting low carb 'idiot proof' diet today

Hi all, starting India and Neris' idiot proof low carb diet today. Anyone want to join me for support? Essentially it's an Atkins style low carb diet. I've done it twice in the past and it works really well.

I just finished 30 days of whole 30 which worked well and completely got rid of my sugar cravings etc. It was also excellent in terms of making healthy food choices. But the weight loss was minimal so I'm now taking it a step further and doing a purely low carb version.

Please do join me if you're starting today.

I think it's decaf for the first 2 weeks, then it'sup to you. I quite like the flavour of the Aldi decaf. I do have one caff a day though.

I have been drinking coffee normally (=black). Not 100% sure if allowed or not but I simply cannot give up my morning coffee and be a normal human being Grin. My family wouldn't thank me if I gave it up.

Someone asked why I think I didn't lose weight on whole30 (I'm sorry for forgetting the name). I simply do not lose weight if I don't radically cut out carbs in quite an extreme, first-2-weeks-of-Atkins-diet kind of way.

On whole30, potatoes and fruit are allowed but no other carbs. So: no grains of any kind and of course no sugar. I absolutely didn't overeat when it came to potatoes / fruit. I didn't even eat them every day. I stopped having cravings and wasn't hungry (great pluses). I stopped therefore eyeing the office biscuits, circling around them and then grabbing 2. They became irrelevant to me! That was an amazing change and I do attribute it to whole30.

However: no weight loss at all.

2 weeks on IPD (same as Atkins) which I started straight after whole30: I lost 3 kilos very easily.

It's very sad. I think some of us simply lose weight with huge difficulty, and then put it on incredibly fast when the diet ends.

I'm exactly the same re: the loss of cravings. It's like a revelation! I have reached a bit of a plateau this week as I have been reintroducing more foods and haven't lost any more weight. I'm going to plough through and hope it's just a blip. It does say in the book nthat this does happen.

I'm feeling a bit disheartened. After I said I wouldn't be weighing myself I cracked after a week, but it was all good and I'd lost about 5lb and continued to lose until I got to 10lb. Now another week has gone by and I'm stuck at 10lb. I haven't knowingly cheated. I'm in ketosis (I bought the sticks to pee on) and I'm definitely changing shape, my stomach area looks much better but why am I not losing the pounds?

This sounds interesting and I know I lose weight when I reduce carbs but I really struggle to cut out sweet stuff.

I also lack imagination with meal planning and with two young children we resort to toast for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch so I end up eating a lot of bread.

Can you share a few typical breakfast and lunches you eat on this diet please?

Apparently it's quite normal to not lose anything in week 3-4 (same thing happened to me), and then I suddenly lost 2kg in a couple of days. Hang in there, it will happen.

I make a granola for breakfast which keeps me very full. I blitz mixed nuts and seeds and add coconut and coconut oil and bake. Serve it with coconut milk and berries.

raisedbyguineapigs · 03/05/2016 18:09

that Granola sounds lovely! I've been having whey protein for breakfast moire and moire. I've cheated a couple of times and have yo yo'd by about 3 lb every week. I know I have to be more strict but have had another bad weekend at a children's party, my parents and then fast food out with the kids. I had KFC without the chips which I though was better than going the full burger but still not great!

Went out for dinner tonight and ordered what I thought was salmon in a creamy sauce (rice on the side) and a side salad but when it arrived it was all mixed in together like a risotto. So I ate it. Not all though, and it was only a starter size portion, and I did try to fill up on leafy salad and buffalo mozzarella.
But on a scale of 1-10, how much damage am I likely to have done?

I've otherwise been doing well and shifting a kg every 5-7 days so was feeling v positive about things. Am I likely to have ruined my chance of losing weight this week?

Stupid risotto. I couldn't even enjoy the bastarding thing 😂.

Back on track today. Breakfast was scrambled eggs with some leftover Serrano ham. Lunch was tuna mayo with half an avocado, leafy salad and a boiled egg.
Dinner was a baked trout with side salad, plenty of oil and balsamic dressing. And a tiny square of dark choc an hour ago. I'd have eaten a bigger piece but my husband appears to have made a beeline for my treats, despite being able to eat pretty much anything else in the house he wants 😡.
Seem to be losing weight slow and steadily, which I'm more than happy with.
How is everyone else getting on?

raisedbyguineapigs · 11/05/2016 21:21

I've stalled a bit after losing quite a lot . I've not been very strict so am going to do boot camp when it starts. It's virtually the same but with no nuts I'm willing to be corrected Grin
