And if not, why not, since low carb has now been proven to be a v effective weight loss technique? It can be hard eating out on a low carb diet, so surprised that no one has thought about doing this, or at least offering low carb options in restaurants

Nandos! Have chicken and macho peas.

Destinysdaughter · 22/02/2016 18:45

At GBK you can ask for your burger to be naked- no bun and extra salad.

rosebiggs · 22/02/2016 18:53

Macho peas are one of their side dishes. Peas with mint etc - they are bloody lovely. You can buy a serving of grilled chicken and then choose your sides, so it's a good option for low carbers.

You can usually ask for burgers to be bun-less, switch out chips/potatoes for lower-carb veg etc. I would love to go to a low-carb restaurant though.

rosebiggs · 22/02/2016 18:55

They also do burgers made with beans and lentils etc if you like that type of thing.

Cafe, rather than restaurant, but pret do low carb salads.

In a lot of Italian restaurants you order a fish or meat dish and it comes with some veg but no or not much potato.

Last time I went out I had a mushroom starter with spinach and ricotta, and the main was 3 sea bass fillets in sauce with veg. Only one tiny new potato in the veg mix.

I don't know of any chains though.

I think a low carb restaurant would have to be high end - most meals are padded out with carbs as they are cheap. And it's unlikely everyone eating would want low carb.

I don't have a major problem eating out low carb. Places like coffee shops and tea rooms are a big no no but most restaurants/pubs will have steaks, salads and the like. Many main courses can be served with salad or veg instead of potatoes too.

Destinysdaughter · 22/02/2016 19:22

I have seen cauliflower rice in a salad at Eat, but not seen many options in restaurants, think they're missing a trick tbh.

I've honestly found eating out lc to be way easier than it ever was on slimming world and the like. I very often have to ask to swap the chips etc for something else but I've never had anywhere refuse.

I can't think of a restaurant that doesn't have a low carb option! Where are you found difficult? Even marks do a boiled egg on a bed of spinach, should you need a quick something instead of a sandwich and don't want to worry about the carbs in a salad dressing.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 22/02/2016 19:45

Can't you just not have potatoes/rice/pasta but have the meat, fish and veg? Seems quite easy to me.

Destinysdaughter · 22/02/2016 21:46

I know that you can find low carb options in restaurants but since there's even a cafe that just serves cereals ( in London ), wondered if there were any actual low carb restaurants in existence.

I think the point we're all making is that there isn't a market for one, as most low carbers can still visit their regular places with their non-low carb friends and find plenty they can eat.

Maybe you wan to look at a more restrictive diet like paleo, where people can't find options as easily.

Palomb · 23/02/2016 08:23

Nandos is great but not the macho peas (which are not strictly LC!) I had the Mediterranean salad with half a hot chicken and some haloumi :)

I might have that for tea actually!

Onsera3 · 23/02/2016 13:40

Pizza Express is my worst. Even when you order a main it comes with hardly any protein and loads of bread sticks. Cheap cheap.

StuntNun · 24/02/2016 13:51

I've heard that Leon are good for low carb.

Destinysdaughter · 24/02/2016 14:48

Yes Leons are brilliant for that and so delicious too!
