I am trying to do vegetarian low carb and am two weeks in. 8 years ago, I lost a lot of weight very successfully doing this, but post -DC have put it all back on and then some. It's not working now though. I weighed 105.5kg when I started the diet two weeks ago, 104.9kg last week, and 105.4kg today - very frustrating! If i sketch out what I ate last week (this week was almost identical), can anyone see what I've done wrong please?

Monday
Breakfast: mushroom omelette
Lunch: Greek salad (leaves, olives, onion, cucumber, tomato, feta)
Snack: small pot almonds
Dinner: cheese soufflé with leaf salad, plain live yoghurt with 5-6 raspberries

Tuesday:
Breakfast: plain live yoghurt, 4-5 strawberries
Lunch: hummous, edamame beans, seaweed salad
Snack: olives
Dinner: aubergine stir fry, plain yoghurt

Wednesday
Breakfast: 2 boiled eggs
Lunch: salad (grated carrot, peppers, leaves, cucumber)
Snack: Atkins chocolate bar (2.9g net carbs)
Dinner: 2 veggie sausages (

I'm no expert at all but it doesn't look like much food? Have you been hungry? I'm asking because I didn't know until someone mentioned on here that if you eat too little your body stores the fat because it thinks you're starving. I don't know if that would happen this soon though, or if the amount you're eating would do this.
Fwiw I'm calorie counting for the first time and it's working for me. Maybe you could try that?

I'm no expert on low carb veggie plans but it looks quite carb heavy to me compared to the Boot Camp plan. Another thing is that the Atkins bars are notorious for causing stalls. At only two weeks in its early days yet but it might be an idea to actually count your carbs. Just a first glance it looks like too much carb and not enough fat.

Oh no, don't say I can't have the Atkins bars either! Oh dear, I have come to rely on them, edamame beans and almonds as snacks. Do you have any suggestions for alternative snacks? Otherwise I end up with endless cheese and eggs and nothing much else.

If you eat enough at meal times you should soon get out of the habit of snacking. Often snacking is a habit rather than a need. As I say, I'm not veggie so I don't really know much about low carb sources of alternative protein. Have you looked at the Diet Doctor site? He was doing a veggie section.

The problem with the Atkins bars is that they contain sugar alcohols or polyols. Originally they were thought to be indigestible but more recent research has show that not to be true. Some people can actually digest some of the sugar but at a slower rate. The rule of thumb seems to be that if they give you stomach pains you don't digest them but then you would tend not to eat them if that's the case! Grin

Just a thought, but have you considered looking at the Harcombe diet? That is very accommodating for veggies and is basically low carb. Its hard going for the first couple of weeks but after that it gets easier. I tried it but went back to basic low carb as I am better on a keto diet for my health issues.

Whoosh! I have weight loss! 3kg just disappeared seemingly overnight. Phew, thank goodness for that. I was about to jack it all in and eat a chocolate cake sandwich.

Chickpeas (Hummus), peas, onions and tomatoes are all really carby. Also, what fats are you using for cooking - coconut oil, butter, extra virgin olive oil, you don't mention it I don't think?

minibmw2010 · 07/08/2015 09:27

And please excuse my spelling of Hummous ??

I agree looks carb heavy to me - tomatoes and hummus and chick peas! All carbs. I've been sticking to green leafy veg only - tonnes of meat and fish (must be v tough if you're vegy) and cheese and the weight has fallen off. I would recommend googling carb figures and looking on the back of everything you eat for carb figures. I look for anything 0. Something or less than 1. With something like spinach as exception. Sometimes you think something isn't carb heavy because it's not a potato or baked product - but then if you look it up a humble tomato can be full of them. Good luck op.
