Wtf am I doing wrong?

Ive had it Hmm

I have a little under a stone to lose. Started a diet that worked wonders after dc2 week before. I am still nursing (dc3 8mo).

Diet:

Bfast: protein bar (3g sugar)
Oolong tea

Lunch: syntha 6 protein powder mixed with water and frozen fruit

Snack: variety. Usually one of the following: 9 bar, naked bar, handful cashews, apples or other fruit. Sometimes boiled egg.

Dinner: chicken (with or without skin), sweet potato, kale. Or fish, sweet potato, veg.

I am having around 1600 calories a day (1200 plus 400 for nursing).

Losing NOTHING.

I am also bloated and constipated despite taking this special "detox" colon cleanse tea, eating apples before bed, and lots of water. I can go 3-4 days with out a BM. After a BM I weigh a lot less so surely it's all water and poo?! How do I get my gut moving faster?

What else am I doing wrong (don't say eat more because I can't)!

Drinking 1-1.5l water plus oolong tea

I think you are in the wrong place, 'cos baby you ain't low carbing!

But…. Have you tried a low carb diet?

Maybe, you might have the same experience as me…. It works!

I'm more Paleolithic which is low carb. I am well under my carb "allowance" every day.

That does sound quite carby- are you counting the carbs in the fruit etc too?

Stick to getting carbs from veg, rather than fruit or bars.
Have a look at the boot camp thread in this section, it's got a really good spreadsheet with the 'rules' I'd low carbing and it works brilliantly.

Sorry I don't know much specifically about paeleo, but I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon!

Paleo is a good for maintaining but not so good for losing weight. They are lower carb but not low carb as practiced on Boot Camp. Surely protein bars and powders are not especially Paleo either. You have lots of fruit in there and also cashews which are one of the carbiest nuts.

As Glitterkitten says, come over and look at BootCamp. Several nursing mums and folk coping with weight loss with young kids. All fresh food, satisfying and plenty of healthy veg.

Just a thought, but too much protein makes me constipated.

More fat maybe?

chloeb2002 · 03/05/2015 10:55

Can't possibly be paleo eating anything called a protein bar or shake? I think your confused. That's probably why your not losing weight?
Paleo is all based on primal diet, clean living. Certainly not any protein shakes in caveman days.
Scrap the rubbish and eat clean low carb high fat.
You can't count both carb and calories? Either or .. Or you will go round in circles.
Low carb will drop your intake due to being more satisfied with each meal. But if you eat 2000 cals in protein (real protein, not synthesised stuff) then your body will process it and not store it.
Also while breastfeeding you will store more energy. I'd worry about getting back into shape once you have weaned dc. More to life than whipping back into shape Wink

chloeb2002 · 03/05/2015 10:59

Also. Not sure how many do you have. 3? But the average sustained weigh gain postpartum, so the bit you store for a longer period is 2kg per pregnancy. So it's more than realistic to be 6kg up on pre children weight x

StuntNun · 03/05/2015 16:46

You're eating far too little. It's surprisingly difficult to lose weight when you're starving yourself as your body doesn't want to let go of any precious fat under starvation conditions. Personally I would recommend cutting all the processed food and eating real food but that's easier said than done.

As someone who is also dieting while breastfeeding an 8 month old, bloody hell woman that's a terrible diet Shock .

Ditch the protein bars and shakes and eat actual food.

I'm losing 1-2 lbs a week with the following typical days eating

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with spinach and chopped up tomatoes. Or 2 slices of toasted soya and linseed bread with homemade salmon pâté (leftover baked salmon mixed with philly + lemon juice + chives + black pepper)

Lunch: HUGE Tuna/chicken/mackerel salad with quinoa.

Dinner: Grilled salmon/marinated chicken breast/steak with ratatouille, boiled baby potatoes and green veg.

Snacks: full fat yogurt, nuts, seeds, olives, cheese.

Your body and your baby need nutrition. Feed them!

thenightsky · 03/05/2015 17:00

I've just looked up naked bars... they have almost a day's worth of carbs in one (bootcamp rules) Shock
