Many thanks!

I'm marathon training but not gone mad on carbs. I lost 5 stone low carbing before taking up running so know how they affect me

I do eat carbs now..... Fruit/muesli/ jacket potatoes rtf but try to eat healthily

Thank you! I'm only walking it but figure I'll still need some carb energy?! Will google it too (funny, I trust mumsnet more nowadays!)

And well done on the 5st!!! And running! Grin

If you are doing low carb 'properly' it will mean that you are kept-adapted - which means that you've switched your body from burning carbs to burning fat.

That means that you don't need to 'carb load' - because you will have ample fuel in the form of bodily fat. Even elite athletes have plenty of body fat to sustain them in their efforts.

When people use terms like 'hitting the wall' (runners) or 'bonking' (cyclists) it refers to when they have used up all their glycogen stores - which is all about burning carbs. But if you're burning fat then you have plenty of fuel to sustain you.
