Can anyone tell me if I'm doing this right please?

Making an attempt at low carbing and today I have eaten:

Breakfast - 1 clementine

Lunch - Hard boiled egg, 1 cooked sausage, tiny bit of homemade coleslaw and some salad leaves, oh and mayo.

Dinner - Pan fried chicken breast in coconut oil, green beans and some baked camembert approx a large tablespoon. Then a few strawberries and raspberries and single cream.

myfitnesspal says it's OK but I feel like I've had way too much today.

Did you find any info elsewhere?

There are lots of low/lower carb diets all with their own rules. I would say a tangerine for breakfast isn't the best as it might make your blood sugar rise?

FurryDogMother · 27/09/2014 13:35

Not bad (though would ditch the clementine), but sounds a bit skimpy to me - my similar day when low carbing looks like this:

Breakfast: 2 fried duck eggs and 4 rashers grilled bacon, mushrooms cooked in butter

Lunch: Tin of tuna mixed with mayo, handful of shredded lettuce or other salad greens, 1 medium tomato, 1 or 2 hard boiled eggs, grated cheese and a spring onion

Dinner: Roast chicken breast (with crispy skin!) in a sauce made from double cream, garlic and parmesan, broccoli to soak up the juices, mushrooms cooked in garlic butter. Berries and a big dollop of clotted cream or full fat Greek yoghurt for pud

Careful of sausages 'cos many are full of 'rusk' (whatever that is) which can be carby. Coleslaw is the food of the devil, IMHO, but that's just me - I hate the stuff!

Rusk is basically dried bread crumbs! Watch out for gluten free sausages too. Don't think that no gluten means no carbs. Often they just use rice or gluten free crumbs instead of the wheat. Look for a posh, high meat version.

If you don't want much for breakfast just have a few almonds or macadamia nuts. Not a huge handful though! Just a single layer in the centre of your palm. They are lower carb than fruit and more sustaining. Some people find a coffee with cream is enough to start the day and get them through to lunch if they aren't regular breakfast eaters.

Oh my goodness Furry that's a lot of food! Sounds like my kind of diet.

I will try your suggestions. How do you get away from the feeling of having eaten loads though?

Also, I wait until 11am and have something at work - fruit or biscuits (sometimes cake!) on offer so, I wrongly assumed a clementine would be better than a pear or an apple. I shall take some nuts with me next week.

If you look at Paul Mckenna (he doesn't ban any foods but I do low carb with his weight loss rules) he reeducates your body so you eat when you're hungry. (I lost nearly 3 stone doing it and am maintaining).

Well, I have an update. I've tweaked a few things and am now getting the hang of it. Felt AWFUL on Sunday (day 7) but feel full of beans again today and have lost three pounds. Best bit of all though - not remotely hungry between meals. Don't want to get too ahead of myself but I think, after a slow start, it's beginning to work.
