Since I've stopped eating wholemeal bread and Weetabix I'm not as.. ahem.. regular.

Where do you get you fibre if you low carb?

Flax seed & vegetables, mainly.

Two sachets of Fybogel a day Smile

I started low carbing 9 weeks ago and have found the same problem.

I find that drinking lots of water (up to 4l a day) makes a big difference and also including veg like swede and Savoy cabbage helps too.

I made the ground flax bread but flax made me sick to my stomach but that has loads of fibre in it.

I did an egg fast about a month in and that was terrible. I think I might get some fibre pills for when I next do one.

High fat seems to make fibre less of an issue. LFLC is worst for me in terms of regularity.

magnesium supplements are good for constipation and lifting mood (if I could just remember to take it) , berries, nuts and seeds are a good source of fiber. Peanut butter always causes ructions for me but I kind of think that's because it doesn't agree with me so mainly avoid it.

It seems Raspberries and blackberries are better than strawberries on this list? www.fitsugar.com/Fiber-Fruits-209893

Fibre from veg and salad.

But also make sure you have plenty of fat and lots of water. And exercise can help too.

Also use olive oil instead of butter, for cooking and putting on ryvitas etc. (funnily I found it was the white and brown wheat bread that gave me const.)

Olive oil is good for, ahem, going regularly. Eat plenty of fennel or take fennel supplements they're brilliant for helping sleep too. Agree with the water, and pumpkin seeds are fab.

Psyllium Husks. In capsule form from Holland and Barrett. Brilliant because they make you feel full too.

I have the same problem, I think it's too many eggs for me (at least 1 a day sometimes 2 or 3).

So I've cut down the eggs and started having coconut and prune porridge (nicer than it sounds honest!). Mix 3 dessertspoons of coconut flakes with a small amount of milk (coconut milk if you're not having dairy but I have full fat dairy milk), bring to the boil and simmer for 5 minutes then mash with 6 tinned prunes. Seems to be working and I'm quite enjoying it :)

It's a fallacy that eggs cause constipation! Egg-bound actually refers to the hens rather than humans.

DogsRus73 · 05/10/2014 14:07

Thanks BIWI - it must be the prunes that are helping then rather than the lack of eggs!

BIWI · 05/10/2014 15:11

Just go easy on them, as they are carby - although that obviously depends how low carb you want to go!

DogsRus73 · 05/10/2014 16:46

Not too fussed about being ultra low carb as I'm at my target weight now, just trying not to relax and pile it all back on (maintaining in some ways seems harder than losing as the incentive is less if you see what I mean).

BIWI · 05/10/2014 18:11

Oh I know exactly what you mean! Maintaining is very hard work. One day I'll work out how to do it Grin
