I low carbed for 10 days, I enjoyed it but felt very tired in the daytime and eventually I cracked Sad. So I've been back eating carbs again this week, a bit of evening over-snacking. And I just can't sleep. Every night at 3-ish I'm awake for 2 or 3 hours. I've got the rage!! I need to be back low carbing again don't I? Please talk some sense into me........

If you were very tired during the day when you were low carbing then that suggests that you weren't eating enough, you weren't eating enough fat and, possibly, that you weren't drinking enough water.

You could also have been suffering from a bit of carb flu, although you should have been over that by 10 days.

I always sleep so much better when I lowcarb....always.

I was using mfp and trying to eat 1500 cals with a ratio of 10:30:60 where 60 = fat. But some days I struggled to eat 1500, I was so full!! Something that doesn't happen with carbs.I definitely don't drink enough water. I need to change that.
And I'm veggie, which is a bit trickier. But I could do it again. Roll on next bootcamp?

Next Bootcamp starts on 29/9!

Don't worry about the calories - you really don't need to with low carbing.

And you definitely need to drink the water

The trouble with the on-line food diaries is that they rather push calories at you and you start to wondering if you're having too many/not enough. You have to either ignore that section or simply jot carbs down in a note book and then listen to what your body is saying regarding being hungry. Once you start burning fat properly you wont be as hungry as your body will turn to its larder for fuel! If you aren't obsessing over quantities you will find it easier to distinguish between actual hunger and simply fancying something out of habit.

Next time try and push through the tired feeling for a bit longer. Some people take longer to turn over to a different fuel. Its much easier to burn glucose so sometimes you just have to put your foot down and insist that its fat or nothing! Grin I find a protein snack such as a bit of cheese is good at bedtime for keeping my blood glucose level. Like Biwi said, keep up the water and make sure you don't avoid salt.

so true miffy . After a lifetime of dieting, and being a bit mathematical, I like the safety of numbers. But its no way to live IRL, I think if I deleted the mfp app from my phone I might let my brain go a bit more free-range!

Do you use I-Phone or Android? I'm on Android and I have an app called Carb Counter. Pretty sure it was free. The search isn't amazing on it but you can put in a custom entry with just the info you need for yourself without having to list the rest of the label. It does the job well enough for me. Every now and then I put a couple of days into Fat Secret to check I'm not going too far out of line with the macros but I only do that because I am struggling due to other health issues.

I find that when I eat lots of carb my blood glucose is all over the place. I think its the massive dips that cause the sleep problems. Protein and fat are slower to process and more sustaining so you don't get that trough that wakes you up in the early hours.
