Low-carb diets

Share advice and experiences of following a low-carb diet.Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Would it be completely narcissistic to start my own support thread? Need help staying on the wagon!

Hi everyone. First time posting, long time lurker.

I literally only have 10 pounds to lose which is destroying all willpower to stick to a low carb diet (which I know works for me). If I had more to lose I think I'd be more motivated.

I'm starting tomorrow and would love to be able to use this thread as some sort of accountability each day. I've barely managed past ONE day in recent months as the Sugar Monster always gets me! I'm so desperate to kick the sugar addiction; it's aged my skin and affects my mood :(

Any tips for the next few days to keep me on track?

btw did anyone watch Bake Off last night - I do love it but it now seems odd watching people make carby cakes etc. Something has clicked in my brain and that type of food is suddenly not attractive (though the things they made did look lovely, objectively) Like how I see meat etc, being veggie. Just a neutral kind of shrug that it's just not my food anymore.

This morning 174.4 - but I don't think that will stay as low for tomorrow. Dehydrated.

I like low carbing - I did it once before, years ago and it worked really well - since then I've yo yo'd all the time - but I immediately feel less bloated, more energised. I'm looking forward to being slimmer! I am unfortunately a chocoholic but at least with this way of eating I'm never hungry, even if I can't have the chocolate.

Yesterday was largely eggs for breakfast, steak for lunch w/ green salad and fish for dinner. And red wine. Need to stop that. I just read it was low sugar and 3 carbs for a small glass. Mistake!

Just had 2 squares of 85% chocolate. Breakfast was 3 scrambled eggs, lunch was Philly cheese and cherry tomatoes. Tea will be Greek salad, loads of olives etc.
I've never done this before - it's fun, I'm so busy thinking what I can eat that I'm not bothering with what I can't.

Weighed myself this morning and have gone from 11st12 to 11st8!! (I was 12st4 a couple of months ago and must have managed to keep a wee bit off even after holiday!

Dinner last night was amazing. Pork chops with cauliflour and broccoli cheese.

Planning corgetti using my new spiralizer instead of spaghetti with sausages in tomato sauce - yum!

Hodge I agree on the reduction in bloating and energy. On looking down there is much less stomach in view at the moment!

I just had a few days off work so started the initial sugar withdrawal last week - I had to spend a day in bed with the headache I got a few days in! But feeling much better now.

Tesco 74% cocoa dark chocolate is great - I had 4 squares last night and it totally killed the sweet things craving. Don't know if I could manage the 85% stuff, must buy a bar to try it.

Today I skipped breakfast (running out to work, bold me!). Had packed a lovely lunch - fresh butternut squash soup, homemade egg mayo, some naice ham. The fucking bag fell over in the back of the car and the soup spilt on everything. So I left it there (I'll clean it tonight) but I didn't let it derail me, I went to the salad counter at lunch and got some salad, coleslaw, egg mayo, and bought some more ham. Might have a bit now (just finishing up in work and there's a table of sweets looking at me, I think I need to have a savoury taste in my mouth to stop me wanting sugar). Oh, I have a few cashews in the drawer.

Hodgepig · 02/09/2014 07:43

Careful of the cashews! They're not massively carby but higher than other nuts - and so moreish.

173.6 this morning. I'm afraid the booze is going to have to go - so annoying.

I would like to be under 170 by the end of the week but we'll see. Doing hard boiled eggs now for breakfast.
