Harcombe - anyone want to join in?

Is anyone else following the Harcombe way of eating?

I've been following this on and off for about two years, but recently lost the plot and dived into a pile of crisps and milk chocolate Sad Shock

I need to get back on track and wondered if anyone would like to keep me company and also inspire me with meal plans, recipes etc as I get bored sometimes of the same old thing.

I have the Harcombe recipe book and the Idiot Proof recipe book too. But I'm rubbish at new recipes, I only cook things I know most of the time. I can cook, but am not very adventurous.

I can adapt most recipes, it's just breakfast I struggle with, as too much dairy affects my stomach.

BerylStreep · 27/08/2014 09:31

I have been having chopped chorizo fried with cherry tomatoes with an egg scrambled into it.

It is very good.

If eggs are a bit much, you could try making some breakfast muffins?

Imliketotallyummm · 27/08/2014 15:54

Beryl that sounds nice, but still can't face egg at the moment.

Imliketotallyummm · 27/08/2014 15:55

Forgot to say, I've tried the breakfast muffins, but didn't like the consistency at all.

End of day 2 (P1)

Not too bad. Had leftover curry for breakfast. Different but not bad. I've always been a sweet breakfast person.

Lunch was omelette with redpepers cooked with chilli flakes.
Dinner was brown rice and roasted veg.

Decaf tea and coffee and water during day. Need to up the water intake. No major sugar cravings (yet), so perhaps the supplements are working.

The celeriac chips sounded nice. Will try them out tomorrow. DH's chicken is marinating in the fridge and I've got more sauces ready. Having a few meals (nearly) ready to go in the fridge is helping me. When I get hungry I'm less likely to reach for toast etc... Didn't buy anything 'tempting' when I did the shop yesterday. If it's not there, I can't eat it.

BerylStreep · 28/08/2014 08:23

well done!

I celeriac chips are gorgeous, especially tossed in oil and curry powder before putting them in the oven.

CerealMom · 29/08/2014 07:26

Thank you Beryl

Finished end of day 3 (P1) yesterday. All went to plan.
Breakfast was curry again.
Lunch was a massive bowl of brown rice and veg. I use Udo's Oil over food, which is really nice. Great over rice, salad etc...
Dinner was curry (theme) with veg and spinach and the celeriac chips. I followed the recipe - how much butter! Definitely having those again :-)

Need to do batch cooking again today. It is an arse cooking 3 types of meals. Me - veggie, DH - carnivore and DS - fussy. It's why I'm preparing so much curry. Had a look at the Gillian McKeith books. I'll be using a few of her recipes when I'm on P2 - grain/bean based.

I'm ticking off the days on the calendar - my grown up sticker chart . Was thinking of extending the P1 phase for a bit longer. Kick the sugar/carb into touch. I've got a lunch on Sunday - just need to keep perspective - it's one meal on one day.

Beryl - how was the colonic? Feeling the benefits :-)

BerylStreep · 29/08/2014 08:51

The colonic was an odd experience. Not in the least embarrassing, and quite interesting actually. It was a bit uncomfortable and crampy feeling at the time, like period pains or the very early stages of labour.

I feel much, much better. I had been quite constipated and bloated, and that has sorted itself. I am also taking a cocktail of supplements, including psyllium husk.

I'm going for another colonic next week. They say you get max results after about 3.

Far TMI probably. Should I have just said 'it was fine'?

CerealMom · 30/08/2014 09:50

No, not TMI Beryl, very interesting :-)
TMI question - you don't have to answer. Did much come out? I'm not a poo troll ;-)

Finished day 3 (P1)
Breakfast: omelette with carrot and spinach
Lunch: plain brown rice smothered in Udo's oil (had a carb craving)
Dinner: mixed veg and celeriac chips

Woke up this morning. I'm definitely eating too much curry - my sweat smells 'spicy'! DH couldn't decide if it was good/bad.

maygirl · 31/08/2014 22:20

Hi, can I join? I'm 5 days into p1 but going to carry on with it for a while longer as still craving wine and milky coffees! I had omelette with chard for breakfast, salmon salad for lunch and baked sea bream with roast veg, broccoli, peas and brown rice for dinner... hmmm bit of a fishy day! I need to lose 1.5 stone. I have had porridge instead of the rice somedays when cant face eggs, I microwave it with water for 3 mins then stir in NLY, its quite nice that way. I find it hard having to prepare carby foods for the kids without nibbling. Hope you all have a good week.

BerylStreep · 02/09/2014 16:53

Hi Maygirl,

Welcome. I'm struggling a bit. Chocolate and potatoes are creeping in, I can feel myself quite up and down with my blood sugars.

maygirl · 02/09/2014 22:45

my cravings are definitely reducing at the moment, but nervous to move out of P1 in case they return, and previously my weight loss stalled in P2 and I gave up. Today I had NLY for breakfast, picnic lunch of spinach and tomato omelette in wraps of lettuce leaves with cucumber and carrot sticks and home roasted ham, a snack of cold left over fish, dinner salmon with brown rice and veg. Herbal teas and water to drink. I have a loan copy of ZH lunchbox recipes on my kindle and made my own mustard roast ham using a recipe from that. I might introduce some veggie pulse dishes with brown rice but stay off milk, cheese, wheat, wine and fruit for a while longer. Potatoes are ok for P2 aren't they Beryl if you keep the skins on?
