Low-carb comfort food?

Is there such a thing?! Am struggling at the moment as going through a stressful time - moving house, changing job etc. In the evenings, and at weekends, I am craving carbs so badly, even just a bowl of cereal would be amazing, let alone (whispers) cake!!
Are there any low-carb comfort foods that you snack on and that give you that feeling of having had a 'treat' but without OD'ing on sugar?

hi, how is cream ok but yog not ok? i don't understand that.

piratecat · 05/02/2014 20:04

or were people talking about yog with sugars in. flavoured.

spilttheteaagain · 05/02/2014 20:17

As far as I understand plain full fat greek yog is absolutely ok, in the small ramekin/bowlful quantities people are likely to be having as breakfast/with a few berries as a dessert. It's certainly a heavy feature on the bootcamp threads.

Obv low fat/flavoured yogurts are not.

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 05/02/2014 21:21

Yup I was talking about greek yog, but I'm mainly cutting down obviously sugary things/ bread/pasta. I thought greek yog was ok? I've never really been into "flavoured" yoghurts!

I thought berries were good too... but I'm still learning!

Piratecat - plain yoghurt sometimes has stuff added to increase the carb content. You are supposed to use heavy cream because the carb content is very low.

What's your issue with yogurt. Total full fat is very low carb n great for this diet

lottieandmia · 10/02/2014 23:00

I think it's probably ok in a maintenance stage of a diet. But it's not recommended in the first phase of the diet I'm doing which is Atkins. Perhaps they are all different though? On Atkins the only dairy you are 'allowed' in phase 1 is butter, cheese and cream.

Are you a member of many low carb groups on facebook? I follow 2 ketogenic groups and one LCHF (low carb high fat) group and there are always fabulous recipes!! so many cake/biscuit alternatives using coconut flour, almond flour, flaxmeel etc. Definitely worth a look

Philadelphia cream cheese with cream, Splenda and cocoa powder with either vanilla essence or orange essence is yummy!

Or a pancake made with eggs and ricotta cheese with the above on it and maybe some berries.

Low carb bounty bars (home made).

Or if you pour double cream over frozen raspberries it freezes and tastes like ice cream Smile
