Stevia with maltodextrin

I've read that stevia is a natural sugar which does not affect blood glucose. For this reason I thought it would be safe to eat on a low carb diet and bought some stevia from tesco.

However, having looked at it more closely this "stevia" contains mainly maltodextrin which DOES affect the blood glucose massively!

Why would they sell something good but mix it with something really bad making it useless?!?!?!? Stupid, stupid Tesco! You've been warned!

It's bonkers, yes. I guess the reason is that maltodextrin is cheap, and stevia itself in so sweet in such small quantities, that a jar would last a forever - hence it's better business to dilute it in some bulk crap. You can order better stevia online, luckily. I even know some people who just grow the plant.

Thank yuck so much Steeleye! I'm going to have to hop on to Google to see whereEi can get my own plant. Smile

Do you know of a reliable online shop I can buy proper stevia from?

I think I've bought mine through Amazon, but I can check what brand and which shop it was from (don't have any atm).

Never tried growing the plant myself - I even killed my spider plant...

I believe the brand I used was NuStevia by NuNatural.
