How is it possible to PUT ON 4.5 lbs in 2 days?!

I've been low carbing since 27th December and bought some scales on Wednesday... Weighed myself... (Cried!) and wrote it down.

Weighed myself again this morning just to check if anything was happening and it seems I have put on 4.5lbs!!!

How is this possible?

I've been eating very strictly, no snacks, didn't even have dinner on Wednesday and have been walking and exercising.

I think if I had stuffed myself with wine and cake I would've put on less?!

Your weight is bound to fluctuate due to a time of the month, water retention, even whether or not you've had a big meal/wee/poo!

You may have also added muscle bulk through your walking, so the gain may not be fat.

On the low carb boot camp threads BIWI will always ask people who haven't lost weight if they've been eating enough fat and drinking enough water. Most often they haven't. Have you been following a particular plan?

I've been drinking loads of water, and nothing else. And I think enough fat, cheese omelette for lunch fairly often, bacon in a salad etc.

I feel a bit gutted! Confused

agree fluctuations even in a day can be 5lb or so. at a certain point of tne month i don't even weigh as its gonna be bad.

Did you move your weighing scales? even just moving them a few cms can make the reading different in my house.

See, weight OUGHT to fall off in a nice neat straight line. And if you exercise and eat right you OUGHT to see a change right away.

But sadly, the human body is much more complex than that. Your weight will fluctuate several pounds during the course of each and every day. It might take several weeks before any real change happens.

you need to make sure that the scales are in exactly the same spot each day. As bizarre as this sounds, I have mine in the kitchen as this is a flat tiles floor - as opposed to the bathroom tiled floor which has floorboard underneath.

my scales are put on the same floor tile exactly each day.

I weigh myself immediately after using the loo each morning.

you cannot have a true comparison unless you are certain that
a) your scales are not faulty
b) you weigh yourself at exactly the same time

If I weigh myself in the evening, I can have a fluctuation of up to 3lbs in a day.

Don't panic! I have digital scales that can vary 3-4lb just by stepping off them and back on again! I once stood on them, got off, went for wee, got back on and had gained 2lb! Should be impossible but scales lie!! Grin

BIWI always says on the threads that you should only weigh yourself once a week. If you want to weigh more often then you should take the average over the week as your weight. Fluctuations are more obvious when low-carbing for some reason which is why many of us use measurements or even how you feel, clothes fit, etc as our benchmark.

Don't be downhearted, I have been that way many times but have kept going. It always resolves. My weight seems to footle up and down a bit then whooshes off and now I have lost over 3stone
