And it's all gone back on over Xmas. I haven't been that much of a glutton, lots of carbs though. So am quite depressed and feel that this way of eating is surely not sustainable as a lifestyle choice if you want to occasionally enjoy yourself. Anyone else fallen out of love with low carbing?

I haven't fallen out of love with it but I've had the same experience. As soon as I eat carbs any weight loss plateaus or pounds go on. I feel it would be all right to put a few pounds on and then go low-carb again but my trouble is that I feel 'addicted' again to the carbs very quickly indeed and have trouble going low carb again, so yeah, I know what you mean, like you can't treat yourself.

Maybe we need to find non-carby foods that are the treat, but by their very nature sugary foods are so delicious.

I'm going to have to tell myself that I enjoy wearing my nice clothes in my 'proper' size more than I like eating the rubbishy food, and that it's so much healthier a way to eat. Let's not give up.

Agree its much nicer, quicker to make meals and I don't feel hungry..... But no point if I for eg, go away on holiday, have birthday treats, Xmas or whatever and the weight literally goes on overnight. So disappointing as I really thought this was a long term winner.

Off to the docs for fat pills, then maybe once down to target weight will low carb to maintain. I don't think I will put 20kg on overnight but seem to have no problem with 5!!

So you are talking about a 5lb gain?

What surprises me here is that you obviously haven't researched low carb enough to understand the very simple explanation of this gain - it is glycogen not weight.

When you first low carb your body uses us any remaining carbs in your body then it uses glycogen which is stored in your liver and weighs between 5-7lb - this is why people always have a big loss in week one. Once you eat carbs again your body replaces the glycogen hence the scales gain but it is not fat you have put on!

If you want to go back to carbs in the future you need to lose 5-7lbs more of fat than your "goal weight" as those pounds are purely fictional! The inch gain is just bloating

I will always be in love with low carb! This is a way of life for me and not a diet, I have no interest in eating carby rubbish. Why do you feel the need to eat this stuff? It tastes dreadful, is bad for the health......oh I could go on for hours!

I have felt like you in the past but have realised as amanda says that it isn't real weight gain.

I have the same problem as woda - when I start eating bread cake etc I find it hard to stop.

Have decided to flip it on its head; the fact i gain weight back quickly after going back to carbs and become addicted to them is proof i shouldn't be eating them! 5lbs isnt so much; a bit of bootcamp would quickly see that gone. How long was christmas for you, for me it was a month Blush so I hope to lose the weight again over a month.

The other thing is many many people who weren't on low carb will also have gained 5lbs over christmas but they haven't weighed themselves. Lots of people at my work are cutting back on choc, cake etc at the mo. There seems to be a natural thing of excess in christmas/winter cutting back in january/ spring, pretty sure it is a normal response to winter time. Even animals fatten up and lean up don't they? slightly makes that fact up

Please don't get fat pills, they have had such bad press, and surely can't be healthier than up and down weight with low carb around holidays?
