How to spare the dentist my bad breath?

I've got a dentist appointment this afternoon. What can I eat for lunch that won't etch his face when I open my mouth?

Not my usuals: fish or hard boiled eggs!

Ah, you worry unnecessarily. Its so we can touch bits of teeth that look a bit dodge to decide if they need fillings, we can check if fillings are loose, feel under fillings, look for wobbly teeth etc. Not for food hoiking.

Sparklingbrook · 14/11/2013 19:48

Oh right Mrsm. Blush

I guess new dentist will also have them though. Smile

Mrsmorton · 14/11/2013 19:53

Yes, they are pretty standard I'm afraid. Honestly, you're fretting for nowt.

Sparklingbrook · 14/11/2013 19:56

I am so sad Mrsm. I didn't want to change dentists I loved him. But he reduced his hours and now we won't see him but any one of a few dentists.
And the new hygienist was really rough and hurt me. Sad

UnderCoverChristmasElf · 14/11/2013 20:19

MrsM - it is just something we have always done - a kind of etiquette - not Im doing it to impress the dentist but making sure it's clean
A bit like washing hands before meals if you like.
Or I would have always have a shower the morning of a smear (sometimes have a bath the night before and then just get dressed in the am) iykwim

Mrsmorton · 14/11/2013 20:23

I know elf but some people only brush before coming in, not as well as before coming in IYSWIM?

Sparkling your new dentist might be just as lovely. The hygienist thing well, hygienists really are the experts in tooth cleaning and the like and it can be tough to scale the teeth correctly. I'm sorry you felt they were rough, don't write them all off though?

Sparklingbrook · 14/11/2013 20:27

No I won't Mrsm. I am a bit addicted to the 'newly scaled and polished' feeling. Smile

Mrsmorton · 14/11/2013 20:48

That's good! I've never had a scale but I love polishing my teeth when the nurses will let me use a drill and it feels lovely!!

crispandglossy · 14/11/2013 20:50

mrsmorton, could i just hijack

i suddenly, as in the last 2 days from nowhere, have had severe tooth pain right under a filled (last yr) tooth, where pressing my tongue on the edge of the tooth and pushing to the gum is very sore and focused pain, and a quarter of another filled tooth broke off at the back

would there be hope of saving them still? have an appointment tomrrow

MsUumellmahaye · 14/11/2013 20:51

some our patients eat snacks while they are waiting in the waiting room :)

Sparklingbrook · 14/11/2013 20:53

Noooooo. MsU. A picnic in the waiting room? Shock

Mrsmorton · 14/11/2013 20:53

It's impossible to say without seeing them I'm afraid crisp A quarter of a tooth isn't very much but sometimes there are more cracks and broken bits than are obvious.
I hope it's ok, it's possible that the nerve of the tooth has been affected by decay/filling and that's what's sore. Hope you get it sorted tomorrow, we always try to save teeth if that's what you want Smile

Mrsmorton · 14/11/2013 20:54

I always laugh to myself when they come in and out a bottle of lucozade and a pack of 20 cigs on the side then whinge that £18 is too much to pay for an appointment

crispandglossy · 14/11/2013 20:58

god i hope so! the tooth is the last back one, a quarter simply came off and it is already filled

the other, is filled but the soreness comes and goes, but when it hits, christ it hits!

thank you for replying :)

MsUumellmahaye · 14/11/2013 21:01
