I'm going back on the veggie low carb bandwagon after putting back on 8-10lbs in the last few months, following an injury. I lost 30lb+ last year (post-natally) but could do with getting rid of this sneaky half stone.

I need some more recipe inspiration so please share!

Thanks chipping, I've lost 1.5 kg since Monday which isn't bad going. I'm using mfp to check carb and cals and I seem to be doing ok with that. I'm ever hopeful that next week I ll carry on losing. I don't mind that its not much. I know based on my calorie intake and exercise that I would have lost that weight anyway on a normal diet, but if it works I'm not complaining :)

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 06/09/2013 18:31

feelin - almost 4lbs since Tuesday, that's brilliant... I wish I could do that! You need to get out of the mindset of thinking about calories though, or you probably wont be eating enough protein & fat.

feelinlucky · 06/09/2013 19:34

3.3 llbs since Monday, not bad going but I've been exercising like a crazy lady every day. I just feel so full, it doesn't seem right :) I had to have wine tonight. Just one glass of sparkling, it's Friday and ill die if I don't have a treat. Ok, I will try to chill out . Fingers crossed for next week.

I'm hogging this thread but I'm excited. Day 6 and my stomach is much flatter. Hooray :)

KinkyDorito · 07/09/2013 13:48

I'm having a day where I could murder a latte and a big piece of cake.

Nearly 2 weeks in. Up-side: IBS symptoms much improved, which is really wonderful and the main reason I'm trying this. (I do need to lose 4st, but the IBS was more of an issue than weight, it was stopping me doing things.) Downside: now on Day 11 of a mega period that apparently is not uncommon if you low carb on the depo jab. Getting pretty fed up with this and hoping it stops soon. I'm supposed to be swimming to help fibromyalgia, but obviously can't atm.

I've lost about 7lbs, but I do think the period stalled me for a week. It seems to be coming off again now, albeit slowly. Who knows, if the period ever ends, I might drop a bit.

I am struggling today though. Sad

feelinlucky · 07/09/2013 17:44

I've just had a Pepsi max, I couldn't cope with another glass of water. I feel really sick today and I can't face eating any more fat. I could cry. I just want a big bag of grapes, a fruit juice and then a whole packet of chocolate biscuits :)

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 09/09/2013 01:16

feelinlucky Grin re flat tummy! The 'carb flu' makes a lot of people feel awful, but hang in there, it's short lived. However, you will make it worse & last longer if you have things like Pepsi Max - you need to be really strict for a couple of weeks while your body changes over to 'fat burning' & not keep confusing it by having carbs

kinky - that's miserable :( it has actually helped my periods but I'm not on the depo jab. 7lbs while you have a period is really, really good :) How did the rest of your day go? You are FAR better to avoid anything sweet at all, but if you get seriously desperate have some macadamia nuts or some 85/90% Lindt chocolate, it's 'only' 19g per 100g (most others are about 35%).

KinkyDorito · 09/09/2013 06:19

Hi Chipping - I fought through it without anything sweet. I'm now at 9lbs and it's been 2 weeks to the day since I started. No sign of endless period stopping yet though. Is a bit pants. I was reading on the internet that this happens to some women for the whole time they low carb - some were 8 or 9 months. Gah!

feelinlucky · 09/09/2013 10:42

I had a terrible weekend. I drank over a bottle of white wine, had 3 slices of bread and a diet coke :( still lost .2kg and I'm back on it with total commitment today.

feelinlucky · 09/09/2013 10:45

Kinky have you been checked for BV and other potential causes of your bleeding? I had continued bleeding once and it was attributed to BV, I also started perimeno at 37 and periods went a bit crazy. It's worth a visit to the gu or gp surgery to get checked out. Thyroid disorder can also impact on periods.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 09/09/2013 22:55

kinky - great that you got through it without anything sweet & you have lost 8lbs Grin Bugger about the period though... that sounds dire!

feelin - you only make it hard for yourself. It's not like calorie counting. :( Hope you hang in there this time!

feelinlucky · 10/09/2013 07:04

Chipping I'm hanging in there definitely. I made a huge pot of cabbage soup in the slow cooker last night. I'm excited about having more veg.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 14/09/2013 08:58

What are you all having for breakfast everyday - I'm getting fed up of avocado & seeds. Occasionally have left overs, but not many of my dinners work for that.

I don't eat eggs, so 'Non-egg' suggestions please :)

festered · 15/10/2013 04:34

Vegan low carber here. It isn't easy, but hell damn it's worth it for the results.
I eat a LOT. And often.

Coffee with soy milk and sweetener.
Treat days I have one spoonful of cocoa, sweetener and lots of hot soy or almond milk.

Popadums with low carb dips (tomato sauces or guacamole)

Huge salads with seeds, oil, nuts, olives, avocado, vegan mayo.

Zero noodles with 'cheese' sauce obviously vegetarians can use 'real' cheese, and any fake meats you fancy.Chickpeas/pulses depending on your carb allowances.

Tomato sauces and zero noodles with loads of veggies and seeds.

Before low carb I avoided processed foods like the plague and cooked everything from scratch, was all about the healthy. But ATM and only teporarily I decided losing weight was important and this has worked. I relax it at weekends-sometimes overload on carbs , sometimes I don't crave carbs at all. It works though, lost 7lb in first week of doing it and have kept losing and gaining muscle definition after that, I do exercise though.
Good luck all.

Scrambled tofu is a nice breakfast.
chop spring onion, grate ginger, gently saute onion till soft, add in tofu (silken) add quarter tspoon turmeric, salt and pepper to taste, tomatoes as desired. Simmer gently till cooked (5mins or so).

funnyperson · 17/10/2013 02:34

Gram flour and spinach pancakes are nice. Gram flour is chick pea flour, so no carbs as far as I know.
Mix gram flour with an egg (can leave out egg if vegan) and enough water/milk till it runs off the spoon slowly. add in turmeric, salt and a chopped green chilli if wanted. add a tablespoon of oil to hot pan and coat with pancake mixture. sprinkle in washed fresh spinach leaves over uncooked side before turning over. Eat with yoghurt and/or with an aubergine curry.
