This looks interesting smoothies for hair Smile

magso · 10/06/2013 09:44

Where do you buy almond coconut and tapioca flour please? Would a health food shop be likely to stock them?

misscph1973 · 10/06/2013 12:34

I buy almond flour in my local Asian shop. Many supermarkets have ground almonds, same thing. I don't buy coconut flour as I think it is too expensive. I am sure that most health food shops would carry all 3. I often buy a lot of the more exotic ingredients from online health food shops.

holmessweetholmes · 10/06/2013 18:25

Thanks for your replies. The insomnia did seem illogical.

FavadiCacao · 10/06/2013 20:02

I buy ground almond and coconut from a local Asian shop too (coconut half the price to almond here). The tapioca and arrowroot flours I ordered online from a buy whole foods online, my local health store carries both tapioca and baking grade coconut flour at a premium price (and not organic!) Hmm

Giraffe Thank you for the no-poo link. I tried bicarb and vinegar before but my hair didn't like it, so today I've tried the cucumber, lemon, bicarb in chamomile tea. Very easy to make, I used paper coffee filters instead of cloth as I was too lazy in a rush. Hair feels clean and soft Smile, my S waves are tighterSmile but frizzier; I couldn't just run my fingers through my hair to untangle, I had to use a wide tooth comb. I'll report back when I've tried a bit of honey for my ends.

FavadiCacao · 10/06/2013 21:51

Had a little light bulb moment and used the tiniest amount of avocado butter for my hair:frizz gone! Grin Hopefully, if applied when the hair is wet, it might keep some wave definition (or just tame the lion mane! Wink )

GiraffesEatPineapples · 10/06/2013 21:53

Favadi thats great :) Shame about the frizz, hope honey helps. I liked the sound of the cucumber one as it is from easy ingredients, so really pleased to hear it left your hair clean and think I will try it! After attaching that link I also saw a reccomendation for raw honey diluted in water as a conditioning shampoo by someone with slightly curly hair.

I went low chemicals (no fake tan or hair dye, nail polish remover, on and off used organic deo) whilst pg and bf my 3 (so about 7 years) and recently dyed my hair for the first time so I am torn between reducing chemicals and wanting to look half decent again.

My friend teaches Ds's piano and she said she was really surprised by his playing of one of his pieces today (very reluctant begginer), I haven't mentioned change of diet to her. I wonder if the nuts and fish oils and reduced rubbish are helping...

I bought decicated cocunut on offer at sainsbos 250g for £1, they also had organic for £1.50 (not sure of weight). We are lucky (or unlucky as too tempting) to have an organic supermarket and cafe in walking distance - I have to figure out my budget soon dreading cc bill.

GiraffesEatPineapples · 10/06/2013 21:55

Brill about avocado butter!

misscph1973 · 11/06/2013 10:24

Giraffes, that's interesting with your DS's piano playing! On a similar note, my DS has had a small wart on his face since he was born and the doctor had promised to remove it when he turned 6, but when he turned 6 last month we found there was no need as it had shrunk away on its own! I am guessing that it's the absence of gluten, but it's pure speculation.

buildingmycorestrength · 11/06/2013 13:36

Found you all again...my app went funny. Grin Hello again!

GiraffesEatPineapples · 11/06/2013 22:48

Hi buildingmycorestrength !

Miscchph warts are connected to immune system responses I think? Great its gone without help from GP!

I have been using coconut milk for tea and coffee etc and its surprisingly ok. My head is pounding though - do people get dairy withdrawl Confused

I made chicken broth in the slowcooker overnight and it came out much darker than it has on the stove, I had some chicory so made soup with it and was quite rich.

I got this organic bbq box from able and cole today www.abelandcole.co.uk/organic-meaty-barbecue-box-small so will have some nice meals this week hopefuly. They also sent a free grove fresh oj which was nice. Have had so many free gifts since rejoining them a couple of months ago nearly one a week - I love feeling like I have had a bargain even though its prob not the case!

FavadiCacao · 12/06/2013 08:31

Could the headache be from the coffee or tea ? I can't drink that much coffee now, before Paleo I needed caffeine transfusions before getting out of bed!

misscph1973 · 12/06/2013 09:27

Giraffes, I don't know much about warts, when I researched it I found it all very confusing as there are so many different types. I have no idea what kind of wart my DS had, and the GP was not very informative (I don't think he knew much).

Agree, coconut milk is nice in tea and coffee. Is it from a carton or can? Not sure about your headache, never heard of dairy withdrawal ;) But I guess it's a possibility, although I think it is possibly related to less carbs, perhaps mild side effect from switching from burning glucose to burning fat? That is certainly a very common symptom (and if it's a symptom for fat burning it's doesn't feel so bad, does it ;))

Never used Abel and Cole, maybe I should try them. I like Riverford and Athleat.

magso · 12/06/2013 09:49

My primal books have arrived, but I have only had time for a quick flick through. I need to get completely different items for my cupboards. I have coconut oil, and have tried it in tea (redbush as I am caffeine free)- it is OK. Hopefully I will get used to it. I bought some rice porridge but now realise rice is also a grain as is sweet corn.

misscph1973 · 12/06/2013 11:43

Don't fret, magso, just use up what you have got before you restock. And many of the more exotic items are in my opinion just fluff! Most Paleo books are for the American market and some things are either hard to get by or too expensive. If you focus on good meat and veg, you're fine! Cabbage is my favourite, all types, as it is cheap, nutritious and versatile.

GiraffesEatPineapples · 12/06/2013 12:38

favadi and misscph I think you may both have been correct. I have had less coffee and also some sweet potato today and feel more normal.

magso try tinned coconut milk in your tea first then go to oil maybe?

misscph I think overall able and cole is more expensive but there is more freedom with dislikes. It might be worth ringing them up and asking what they can do for you, if you mention you plan to buy meat and therefore would like to try some organic meat first they might be more likely to include a joint/chicken? Dp rang up and was very persuasive and got a good deal for signing up again as they want to get back customers - a free large organic chicken, and free small fruit box with first delivery. The fourth box was free so we went with the large fruit and veg box. We generally get the salad box as I prefer the contents and it is one of the cheaper options. My skip it/ dislike list is also pretty full so usually have one or two substitutions. They have an offer section and I usually pick meat from there but a lot of it is not organic but can include venison. Check receipts too as one of mine had a voucher for £5 off meat.

misscph1973 · 12/06/2013 13:08

Thanks for advice re able and cole, Giraffes, will check them out!

Good to hear that you are feeling better. I logged my food on MyFitnesspal last week, just to get an idea, and I was amazed how few carbs I had, most days under 50. I am happy as long as I am under 100.

GiraffesEatPineapples · 13/06/2013 11:46

Misscph I haven't been logging recently but might restart am bfmummy. On day 3 of whole 30, will be fine just in time for DC birthdays and can focus on then in holidays. by the way noticed the burgers and sausages we got from able and Cole have wheat so I can't eat them.

Dp on board with spending more on groceries which is great and his tummy a lot flatter which might be partly why.

Ds still complaining but he is having Less smelly wind which is good for everyone!

infamouspoo · 13/06/2013 12:50

Do you ever get days when you just dont know what to eat? I'm out of fish (I dont eat meat). Its cold, I want something hot but I'm out of ideas. Cold salad isnt appealing. Any ideas?

misscph1973 · 13/06/2013 13:05

Giraffes, I didn't know you were bf'ing, I missed that. When I bf'ed I could eat what I wanted, I didn't gain weight and my knockers were massive (well, at least to me, a small B compared to now AA ...).

Re abel and cole, that's the problem with many organic meat delivery companies, their sausages and bacon contain un-paleo-things ;) I got a box from Eversfield recently, they had sausages with no bad things in, they were the best I have ever had! But their steaks were so strange, they were made up of several bits to get the right weight for the pack, so although they were definitely flavourful, I won't be ordering from them again. Riverford has the best chicken ever, and their briskets are to die for. But they don't exactly advertise grass-fedness, so currently I am sticking to Athleat, I just got a large box from them with 2 chickens, 4.6 kg mince and loads of steaks.

FavadiCacao · 13/06/2013 13:08

A minestrone is any veg thrown in a pot to become soup, I curried mine today and added an egg in it! :D

FavadiCacao · 13/06/2013 13:10

Xpost. Minestrone is meant as an ides for infamous

FavadiCacao · 13/06/2013 13:46
