Jan ’26 Low Carb Bootcamp - week 5 and out of the doldrums!

Morning all

Spreadsheet, as per:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gsWvWpGzTSJld1avBi9-uLJveFZes9Qa2ORKthPMl8E/edit?gid=1415293539#gid=1415293539

… wherein I see that @mumsandaunties has almost lost a stone! Brilliant going Flowers

But from last week’s thread it’s clear that there’s been a bit of ’slippage’! Carb creep is easy but deadly - a bit here, a bit there and ‘I’ll start again tomorrow’ (yes, been there, got the t-shirt).

Let’s start the second half of this Bootcamp afresh.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain and @mynamefor2025 you are both very welcome! Please make sure you’ve read the rules, and have a good look at the resources on the spreadsheet so that you understand what Bootcamp/low carbing is all about.

The prep thread for this Bootcamp is also worth a read:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/low_carb_bootcamp/5469664-january-26-low-carb-bootcamp-getting-us-started?reply=149808442

(Just ignore the first posts that were tagging people)

@mynamefor2025 I saw your post on the last thread - what have your last few days’ food and drink been? And how did they compare with what you were eating/drinking before? A sudden, radical change of diet could be causing the diarrhoea

I once tried a 90 sec microwave bread and It was really tasty. It is literally 3 or 4 ingredients, mix it,spread mixture in a square container and microwave for 90 sec.
Don't remember which recipe it was but there are lots online
Sorry, had to edit as the link didn't work

Back and feeling a tad jaded, went on the scales with much trepidation and it wasn't too bad?! Back to good habits this week - 23 days until our holiday and I don't want to have to buy anything new so will be on strict BC until then. Need to knuckle down to the final planning etc which should keep me out of mischief........

Smiling a tad at all of the scale gremlins!!!!

Almahart · 04/02/2026 12:36

Had a gorgeous cheese salad and mayo sandwich with srsly LC bread. Really hit the spot.

I made a curry last night with tofu and aubergine which was delicious but I think a little carby - I used a pataks paste and a tin of tomatoes.

Really busy this week but looking forward to making bread and naan suggestions when things quieten down

CointreauVersial · 04/02/2026 13:07

Eating one of my favourite lunches - flat mushrooms stuffed with cream cheese mixed with whatever falls out of my fridge, topped with grated cheese and into air fryer for 8 minutes. Today it's diced ham and everything bagel seasoning.

SprinklesofRain · 04/02/2026 13:47

Got on the scales this morning and I was lower than I was at the lowest point last week (I have a pattern of losing during the week at work as I am more disciplined and putting a bit back over the weekend when I tend to forget my water and there are more temptations on offer because the other family members are around). My overhanging tummy definitely feels smaller than it was not long ago so that's great. I'm going to have a look at some of these bread recipes as I don't have freezer space to store bulk orders of the bought versions.

FinallyHere · 04/02/2026 16:38

Congratulations on the NSV @Rayna37

its a welcome reminder that although I have yet to see the scales move significantly this bootcamp, my bras do fit me again rather than being uncomfortably tight as they were over Christmas

mumsandaunties · 04/02/2026 17:46

Well done on the ‘more comfortable’ bra straps @FinallyHere . I seem to be going in the other direction. I’ve been wearing some jeans all week that have always been a little snug. Despite having lost quite a lot they are still tight and giving me a wicked wedgie. But I will persist.. they’ll be my measurement jeans from now on Wink

CointreauVersial · 04/02/2026 18:54

"The Jeans of Truth" 😆I had some trousers like that.... if I struggled to button them up then I knew it was time for action.

mynamefor2025 · 05/02/2026 07:35

Just done my first weigh in. I've lost 11lbs in my first week. Obviously will be water weight, and not sustainable or healthy at that rater but very pleased with that for my first week ❤️

Pinkelefant · 05/02/2026 08:52

That's amazing @mynamefor2025 👏
Don't downplay your achievement!Just keep doing what you're doing 😄

BIWI · 05/02/2026 14:07

Well done! It won’t all be water weight - some will be glycogen (the glucose stored in your liver and muscles) and a little bit will be fat.

Brilliant Flowers

Thanks. I'm a plain water so havnt found it too bad but it's just week 1.

Have to say though my sugar cravings are gone. I was on mounjaro last year and I like the feeling of not wanting sweets and chocolate very similar.

mumsandaunties · 05/02/2026 20:13

Hello all. How are you feeling about the bad breath issues. I’m getting a bit fed up of feeling like my breath is bad, no matter how much water I drink, times I brush my teeth etc.

Sunnysideuptoday · 05/02/2026 22:16

Hi @mumsandaunties I’ve been out today and got mouthwash and airwaves gum. In my job I’m talking to customers at length and I’m getting paranoid about my breath. It does seem to be getting worse for me. Along with a funny taste. I’m hoping that the gum and mouthwash help.

SemmaLina · 06/02/2026 02:00

I don’t think I have bad breath , I do hope not !

I’ve been sleeping so much better … until tonight
I’ve moved to the spare room , ( DS room when he comes to stay , nice king size bed ) with a hot water bottle and a sleepy tea

Almahart · 06/02/2026 07:58

I just had an overnight whoosh and dropped 2.5ibs. I'm delighted! I have found the invention of low carb bread an absolute game changer in sticking to this woe. I don't eat it often but it makes a huge difference to be able to have a sandwich if I want one

TeamToeBeans · 06/02/2026 08:13

I’ve had a new “lowest since I don’t know when” weight this morning, very happy about that!

BIWI · 06/02/2026 11:39

Brilliant @TeamToeBeans Flowers

The bad breath is a sign of ketosis, @Sunnysideuptoday and @mumsandaunties so it’s a good thing! It should be temporary. If it continues, perhaps consider increasing your carbs a little?

BIWI · 06/02/2026 11:40

I’m going to be away for the next couple of days, so probably won’t be around too much.

Be good and don’t break anything Wink

Woo hoo! No big stick! Time to go crazy on sweets and biscuits.

Well actually, no. Because the sweets and biscuits don't serve me well. I thrive on broccoli and cheese. Some salmon, chicken thighs, a stew made with peppers, aubergine, olives, tomatoes...

SemmaLina · 07/02/2026 08:07

A new low fleetingly on the scale this morning , belt of doom will be tried later , I’m having a coffee & iPad moment looking out at a very Misty morning , but it’s not raining ! ( yet )
Having a mooch around the Diet Dr website for inspiration as I will pop to Tesco later

RightTurnClyde · 07/02/2026 08:55

A busy few days of ups and downs. After the scales being stubbornly immovable for about a week finally there was a whoosh and I got down into the sixties (kg) towards the end of last week. Then I fell off the wagon yesterday as I had a particularly nasty migraine and in the aftermath I really craved some bread. Then some more. However I'm back on it today.

Well done on a successful week 1 @mynamefor2025, it gets a bit easier from here on. Congratulations on your whoosh @Almahart it's such a relief when it finally happens!

mumsandaunties · 07/02/2026 09:28

Enjoy whatever you’re off doing this weekend@BIWI.

I need to have a think about what sort of food to plan for the next week.. something a bit different.

Whenever I cook something I tend to be eating it for three or four days, so I’m bored with it by the time I’m done and don’t want it again for a long time. So five weeks in there is quite a few things on that list. Perhaps I’ll do something like a tomatoey stew with quorn pieces…though I know BIWI is not a fan. I fancy something sharp and non greasy.

I have two posh meals this week and am having seabass at both. Must try hard to avoid the desserts though.

Jumperorcardi · 07/02/2026 18:32

I’ve been away with work for a couple of days, stayed away from all the cake, biscuits and wine. However, it was 3 course set menus that I had to choose the best of from the options available. Did quite well but still seem to have gained a lb, am hoping it comes off by Monday.
tonight is chicken, roast caulifower and homemade coleslaw.
