Morning all

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gsWvWpGzTSJld1avBi9-uLJveFZes9Qa2ORKthPMl8E/edit?gid=1415293539#gid=1415293539

Spreadsheet as per - and I can see there are some really great results already, and some good losses even though we were in the infamous week 3!

Brace yourselves for week 4 being potentially challenging too. (Sorry Smile
But from now on, weight loss should be steady and consistent - not necessarily every day, but you should see a satisfying downward trajectory.

Hello all. I’m still plodding along and managing surprisingly well at keeping the carbs down, though I’m not sure I expect to have seen much weight loss this week.. at least if I use the “trouser tightness” test as a measure I haven’t.
However it’s been a rough week (we lost one of our cats) and so I feel very proud of not having completely given up.

Meal wise things are ok. I’m bored of salmon and don’t feel particularly motivated to cook so I haven’t done anything interesting with Cauli rice or celeriac.

I tried a couple of slices of the SRSLY fruit bread yesterday, and could happily have eaten the whole loaf.

I think I need to start dragging myself to the gym. A couple of yoga sessions a week is not cutting it!

Sorry about your cat Flowers

mum so sorry about your cat. I love cats.

well it was going so well. I’ve been v v v good for 4 weeks , survived Indian restaurant on Friday night (no rice, no naan, delicious oven baked chicken with side salad ) but today went to a friend’s house for Sunday lunch and it was v difficult as I didn’t want to be rude . Had fish cakes to start, small Yorkshire pudding, no potatoes, but roasted root veg and cauliflower cheese (not the low carb type) and then v sweet pudding (albeit a small portion). It was delicious obv but unavoidable. Did my best. I know I don’t have that much to lose (half a stone) but it’s going slowly and feel disappointed. Sorry to moan.
have however drunk 2ltrs water and back to v strict bc tomorrow .

Sorry about your cat @mumsandaunties 💐. WRT exercise , I have a walking treadmill in my lounge and I’m currently midway through a walking tour of Paris on you tube , it really makes exercise much less boring.

mynamefor2025 · 01/02/2026 19:25

So started this on Thursday... Now I have like explosive diarrhea. Is that normal? Sorry for TMI

Jumperorcardi · 01/02/2026 19:38

So sorry about your cat @mumsandaunties .

A good weekend here bootcamp wise.

@DryWhiteagainW I find it is most difficult when you go to someone’s house for lunch, as you do have to eat something and you can’t just order what you know you can have as you would in a restaurant. I am away with work this week, a couple of nights have set menus with 4 choices, I have been very picky with the menu choices, and asked for extra green veg as I wont be having the potatoes etc. I am dreading being hungry, so am going to take some bootcamp friendly backups just in case.

Good luck everyone for tomorrows weigh in.

RightTurnClyde · 01/02/2026 19:48

What's the mayonnaise like @EnchantedDaytime ? I tried to make mayo with EVOO once and it was very bitter. I'm guessing M&S know what they're doing though!

Sorry to hear about your cat @mumsandaunties .

Sunday roast beef today, with 8 different vegetables, not including roast potatoes (which I swerved). I did roast and eat the potato peelings with olive oil and salt following an idea from Tim Spector. They were very finely peeled and tasted very fibrous so I doubt there'd be much carb.

I'm visibly thinner in my most northerly regions today, but gravity isn't my friend and it seems to be collecting round my midriff😂

EnchantedDaytime · 01/02/2026 20:22

It tastes just like my homemade mayo @RightTurnClyde which I make with Felipe Berio Mild and Light OO. the other ingredients are the same too (apart from me using whole egg and them dried) so it should. I’ve never liked Hellmans or Heinz very much and normally either make my own or buy Stokes. I tried make it with cold-pressed rapeseed oil once and it was SO bitter it was inedible what a waste that was, I imagine EVOO would be far too strong too.

I have realised tonight that I have majorly slacked on the drinking water front, had several glasses now this evening and will make sure I feill my water bottle when I get to work in the morning. Just making my next three days packed lunches and yogurt/seed/berry jars which I have for a late breakfast at work.

Want to join. How many carbs are in nectarines, dated and blueberries? Is the black pumpernickel German bread the same as rye bread and is it allowed?

CointreauVersial · 01/02/2026 21:18

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain if you click on BIWI's link on the OP there is a page with the carb counts of various fruits.

I doubt pumpernickel is OK... I expect it will be quite carb-heavy.

venusandmars · 01/02/2026 23:02

@CointreauVersial I make a batch of chia pudding and I find it continues to thicken over the days... I also stick in whatever creamy thing is hanging about in the fridge - cream cheese, sour cream, creme fraiche, mascarapone. Then I add a bit of water (not milk) if it's looking a bit thick. I have a tub of blended seeds, blitzed nuts, toasted coconut, pumpkin seeds and have a sprinkle of that on it.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain you might want to read the first thread in this series. The link is here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/low_carb_bootcamp/5469664-january-26-low-carb-bootcamp-getting-us-started About half way down the first page are @BIWI 's 10 simple rules. That's the simplest advice to follow without getting into details of different carb counts, although they are on the tabs at the bottom of the speadsheet. If you are wondering about a particular food item then google the manufacturer's website where you can find the nutritional information including carb counts. Of for fesdh items try the Sainsbury's website which has excellent information.

From the Sainsbury's site I could see that nectarines have 9g of carb per 100g (compared with about 4.4g for raspberries). Dates have a whopping 46g cab per 100g!!! That's even more than the pumpernickel bread which has 35g carb per 100g. Whilst all of those might be part of a healthy and varied diet, none of them are OK for low carb bootcamp.

@BIWI the Dara O'Briain show is fantastic - was he taking about finding his bio Dad? Poignant and hilarious!

We had friends round for curry last night and I just couldn’t resist a little bit of naan and a samosa, been craving something stodgy all week. It was a very tiny bit and it seemed to do the trick, no more cravings today. Otherwise had delicious butter chicken, saag paneer and tandoori lamb chops. This morning we made a tray bake brunch that I really recommend: chipolata sausages, halved tomatoes, sliced halloumi and baby portobello mushrooms roasted and when about ready chuck a bag of spinach on top and put back in the oven for a few minutes and then serve with a fried egg.
It was really good and a lot less faff than frying all the bits. Bolognaise for dinner with spiralised courgette fried quickly in butter and lashings of Parmesan. Did a hugely satisfying sort out of the larder cupboards in the kitchen today, they had never been properly organised when we moved into our renovated kitchen last spring and now things are logically arranged together, which highlighted some amusing gluts - 13 tins tuna and 5 bottles of hoi sin sauce!

Rayna37 · 02/02/2026 07:01

Hosted a coffee morning yesterday and failed miserably to swerve all my home made brownies, flapjack and Rocky Road. Worst day for me of the 4 weeks by far and expecting upwards movement on the scales compared to last week.

Only 3 weeks to go before a city break so going to be very focused. Going to freeze ALL the leftover cake, mostly in lunchbox portions for DH & DS.

Almahart · 02/02/2026 07:39

I fell off the wagon yesterday too, had some little tortillas at Wahaca and then met a friend for a drink and had half a bowl of chips. Back on it today
