Week 6 - Back-to-School Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all. And a decidedly chilly one here in Sarf Lunnun. We've had to put the heating on for the first time this year Shock. It seems so sudden, after all the much warmer weather we've been having recently.

Anyway.

Here's the spreadsheet for all your confessions

So we have three weeks left - might not seem long, but still time to shed a few pesky pounds. But only if we follow the rules!

This week's challenge - with apologies to the vegetarians - something lovely and low carb that you can make with prawns.

3lbs down this week.

I'm pleased, although weight hasn't changed since Tuesday even though I've been strict.

Today I'm going back to the gym. I haven't really been in the past month because exercise makes me ravenous and I needed to break the gym/toast relationship.

I think I'm ready. Planning to have tuna and egg salad before I go.

I'm desperate to lose 2lbs this week which will take me to a stone overall. Still another 2 or 3 stone to go but it will feel like a monumental achievement.

And I managed to forgo the crumble. Made one exactly for 2 and sat and watched them eat it. It felt hard, but I survived!

LadyBird1973 · 16/10/2023 08:34

Good morning all. Thanks for the new thread Biwi.
Am 3lb down this week, which is fantastic. Not least because I have a party to go to soon. I'm 2.5lb away from my target for this bootcamp and 1st 9.5lb from my overall target weight. Am very pleased things are heading in the right direction.

Good luck to everyone still to weigh in today - I hope it all goes well for you

fruitstick · 16/10/2023 08:41

Well done @LadyBird1973 - great work 💥

agnesmartin · 16/10/2023 09:01

Popped in quickly to add my weight. 5lb up 😐but not unexpected after 2 weeks off piste. Was feeling a lot more human yesterday and made a batch of mayonnaise and started some sauerkraut. Planning to stick to LC this week.

Well done to @LadyBird1973 and @fruitstick and everyone else who's KOKO!

RooRooCooChoo · 16/10/2023 09:01

No change this week, which I suppose is what I deserve. I was really good until Thursday - no cheating and a decent amount of exercise every day. However... while I was good at my graduation I defintely got lax over the weekend of celebrations and had nibbles of others' chips etc. Also, definitely not enough water. So, I've had a good long talk with myself and will aim for 2lb loss next week.

Today will be
L: chicken breast with salad
D: lemon chicken tagine with cabbage. Lots of chicken today

Am posting on the assumption that the alcohol boils off ... but if not (@BIWI) I'll remove. So yummy.

BIWI · 16/10/2023 09:24

The alcohol will burn off but I don't think the carbs do? But that said, the recipe only calls for 20ml, which is just over a tablespoon, so I wouldn't worry about it!

Down a bit, just a bit, but I’ll take it after a couple of weeks of illness and holiday slip-ups. @BIWI, your “carbs beget carbs” is the absolute truth! Very much a slippery slope. Also, while my family wants to be supportive it gets bewildering for them if one day they see me cheat and the next day think they’re doing me a favour by buying me an old favourite sugary treat that I then have to reject…

(just a quick note on the spreadsheet, which may be due to the formatting it adopts on my phone - though it hasn’t been a problem before - my starting weight disappeared and the bottom cell border was erased, leaving only Oldandtired66’s entry. The cells didn’t merge, though, so I was able to re-enter my starting weight - but somehow it then duplicated itself in NoMoteAgeJokes starting weight just above🙄. Afraid to touch it any more and bugger it up further 😬)

TheOnlyMrsW · 16/10/2023 11:13

No scales still - the new kitchen is going in from today so hopefully will be back up and running by Weds/Thurs this week.............had an appalling few days at the end of last week with way too much alcohol, not enough sleep or water, stressful days and curly fries, pizza and bacon sandwiches. Not surprisingly I feel bloated and sluggish...........much better yesterday with spaghetti bolognaise for dinner, I had asparagus and broccoli instead of pasta. This morning have had a cup of coffee, loads of herbal tea and an omelette with the leftover broccoli and asparagus, cherry tomatoes and chorizo. Have already roasted courgette, cauliflower and cherry tomatoes for dinner to go with either the leftover spaghetti bolognaise or peri peri chicken. Hopefully by the time I get near any scales I'll be back on plan and it won't be too horrific.
Sorry if I missed a post @BIWI - what is the challenge for this week?

TheOnlyMrsW · 16/10/2023 11:14

Oh - and it's flipping freezing here too in the wilds of East Lancashire, had to deice the car every morning since Friday so far...........

OldandTired66 · 16/10/2023 11:18

Stayed the same this week, stubbornly hanging onto this plateau. In the absence of a weight loss, I congratulate myself on my maintenance skills, all good practice for the future! Have cut back on the higher calorie snacks and am really thinking about whether I am actually hungry so hopefully will make progress this week. I read the article on set points with interest. I think I have settled at a new set point which might be partly responsible for my refusal to budge despite needing to lose at least another 2 stone, that plus settling into a whole new load of new habits that I need to work on. I've got too used to the high fat lifestyle! I love prawns and rarely have them as no one else is bothered so might treat myself to some of the recipes posted this week. KOKO all. Hope it wasn't me who messed up the spreadsheet @Okaygoahead , @FinallyHere!

nappiesandcontracts · 16/10/2023 12:20

Sorry if this topic has already been covered but does anyone know if this WOE can affect menstrual cycles? Thanks!

FinallyHere · 16/10/2023 12:42

Hello lovely bootcampers.

I'm afraid I'm in an all day training course today so may not be able to do much spreadsheet wise til later this evening.

I've read @Okaygoahead 's description and am not sure I understand. I can see from a laptop browser it all looks ok.

I'll have a proper look later on.

ChimneyPot · 16/10/2023 13:28

I am still in Paris with no access to a scales which is probably just as well given the amount of food I have eaten.
Most of the food has been BC compliant except for one small dessert which was mostly sharp apple. But the sheer volume of food and wine I have consumed since Friday will undoubtedly show up on the scales tomorrow.

Both pairs of jeans I brought with me are a bit too lose so hopefully I haven’t completely sabotaged myself.

venusandmars · 16/10/2023 13:53

dh and I had an oppointment in town this morning, finished by 11am so we treated ourselves to brunch - eggs royale, but on spinach instead of muffin. But it was spoiled by the eggs being a little under-poached with sloppy, runny whites. I complained and was brought a new egg (just one), which wasn't much better. dh's fried egg was similar. Then we were charged an automatic 12.5% service charge. I'd paid in cash and they returned my change minus the 12.5%. I asked for the service charge to be returned, and then left 10%. The waiting staff were nice and apologetic, but if you'e cooking breakfast get a chaef who can cook eggs!

dinner will be sausages, cauliflower, cabbage.

The rest of the week is likely to be a bit of a blur as we have a combination of full on dgc followed immediately by full on friends.

@TheOnlyMrsW it's in the OP!

So sorry, feel like a dunce now! However as I'm allergic to shellfish I'll read and be sad that I can't eat any of them

BIWI · 16/10/2023 18:23

Well I've ended up not cooking it tonight, as we have both DC eating with us, and one doesn't like prawns! So that will have to wait for another night this week.

Sorry about the allergy @TheOnlyMrsW - will aim for a challenge next week that you can do!

Hi everyone, I have stayed the same this week. I am going into my week 5. Today I had ffgy, chicken caesar salad, peppermint and diet coke for lunch, and lamb chops with Stir fry cabbage for dinner.

This is my go to prawn curry recipe (without the sugar and I would obviously not do rice)

Vivek Singh's popular Bengali prawn curry, chingri malai, has a spicy coconut sauce that takes minutes to make. Serve with smoky basmati rice.

Okaygoahead · 16/10/2023 20:07

@FinallyHere I’ve checked it on my laptop now and fixed it up. I’m sure @NoMoreAgeJokes will feel relieved (by about 26lbs) that my starting weight is no longer in her starting weight box!

FinallyHere · 16/10/2023 20:09

@Okaygoahead thank you very kindly and apologies for the inconvenience xx

Okaygoahead · 16/10/2023 20:11

Except that the formulas in my line now seem a bit messed up, and there I really don’t trust my spreadsheet skills to fix them
