It's gonna be a low carb Christmas in our house...

Starting this thread because for so many people the festive season starts and ends with an excess of sugar and starch (and alcohol). And as a consequene it ends with an increase in weight and a terrible lethargy.

But it doesn't have to be like that. What it needs is some resolve - you sometimes have to say 'no' to things you might otherwise like - and some really great ideas about delicious alternatives so you don't feel like you're missing out.

In the paraphrased words of Dana:

It's gonna be a low carb Christmas in our house
Dreaming of those lovely butter-shoogled sprouts
It's gonna be a time to ignore all the sweet stuff
Missing nothing but the extra seven pounds

Thanks for the recipe @EfficientlyDecluttering

@Joppi I am planning the same. Maybe some seafood one day. Also baked cheese e.g. camembert with crudités some days.

Joppi · 23/10/2023 17:54

Baked Camembert is a great idea!

Does anyone know what's happened to the pre christmas 23 thread, seems to have disappeared? @BIWI , @FinallyHere

Following for inspiration and motivation.

I have never done LC at Christmas. I tend to be a person who is I start eating carbs I find it really difficult to stop so I am considering trying to stay LC over Christmas.
Christmas dinner itself I can probably manage as I am not mad on roasties and do love cauliflower cheese, brussel sprouts with bacon and celeriac gratin. I will be cooking and I always do so many sides doing a few LC won’t be an issue or even noticed.
Desserts, breads and treats will be a bigger issue. And Christmas parties.
I am hoping to try a few recipes before then.

Just browsing this thread for ideas and help to stay on track. @ChimneyPot - have you tried any of these recipes?

A good piece of advice I took from last year's Pre-Christmas BootCamp is to remind myself frequently Xmas Blush

"I am NOT a human trash can" Xmas Shock

(Somehow "trash can" resonates more than "dust bin" Xmas Confused)

Frumpyunicorn · 29/11/2023 13:32

That is good advice @prettybird
@Magnolia82 if I want them, I am just going to eat normal versions of those foods. But where I am differing is that normally I would be starting them now and be eating too much for all of December, but I am going to wait until christmas eve apart from the odd trip out / family visit to try and limit the damage and try and eat low carb as much as possible over the Christmas period. I am doing the countdown to christmas that @BIWI set up. My aim is to make sure I don't put on all the weight I have lost over this month, so that when I start strict bootcamp again in January I am starting from a lower weight than I was when I started bootcamp in September.
