@Pisseslikeahorse
been asked by the MIL to source some beer for her big number birthday weekend coming up in May only to realise that I'm quite averse to the thought of drinking any of it. That if this is how I am now how do I maintain in the future when I have a beer or potato or some other carby sugary crap, I know I've still got allot to go but am a bit worried that i'm heading into a yoyo diet of strictness and gluttony
This is the dilemma we all face when we reach maintenance! And I won't lie - I actually think maintaining is harder than losing weight.
One of the things that makes it difficult is that we all have a different level of carbohydrate that we can tolerate. So I can't even say to you 'stick to [x]g carbs per day and you'll be fine' because I don't know what that amount will be.
When you reach your target, this is when you start to experiment, to find out what you can/can't include in your day-to-day diet without weight going back on.
That is, though, very different from allowing occasions where you know it's going to be carby. We're always going to have times when either there's no option other than carbs, or you simply want to eat/drink them! It's how you deal with those occasions that's important. Acknowledge them, enjoy them, but then be aware that you will need to be a bit stricter/more vigilant in the days afterwards. This isn't yoyo dieting though. It's a perfectly normal way to balance out what you're eating.
So - beer, potatoes and other 'sugary crap' may well feature in your life. Just don't expect to be able to consume them in huge quantities, daily, without the weight going back on. Those things are what led to the weight gain in the first place. (Why do you think we talk about men having a beer belly?!)
