I’m mortified at my weight gain

I’ve been telling everyone I’ve put about a stone on over this year. I stepped on the scales yesterday and it turns out I’ve actually put almost two stone on. I feel terrible, all my clothes are too tight, I feel my flab wobbling when I walk, I’m having to go to work with my trousers undone ... feel terrible.

No point in trying to diet two weeks before Christmas but once it’s out of the way, where do I start with low carbing?

@Biwi runs regular bootcamps. There's a new one starting in January, so I think you should have a look at the one running now and read the rules, so you can prep. She and the other posters who run them are very knowledgeable and supportive.
Personally I don't think it would do you any good to delay - you may get as well get started now and then that's less to lose in the future. Christmas is going to be difficult, so going low carb for a couple of weeks might allow you to get a head start.
You have my sympathies - it's a horrible feeling to finally get on the scales and realise how much you've gained Flowers

You have all my sympathy @CardoMondo. It's a horrible feeling, especially as it creeps up so easily!

The best thing to do is to have a read up on Bootcamp rules, as @MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously says, so that you can prepare yourself.

Here's a link to the spreadsheet that we use to record our progress - if you check on the tabs at the bottom (or top - depending on what device you're using!) you'll find the rules.

Essentially if you're low carbing (regardless of which diet/plan you're following) you won't eat any of the following:

pasta
rice
bread (of any kind)
potatoes/sweet potatoes/sweetcorn
flour
pastry
biscuits/cakes/sweets
sugar
fruit juice
balsamic vinegar

The idea behind Bootcamp is that we start with a very strict couple of weeks; so as well as all the above, you also won't eat any fruit, any nuts or seeds, any chocolate or drink any alcohol.

After these first two weeks, which are designed to switch your body from burning carbs for fuel to burning bodily fat, you can introduce some fruit (mainly berries), nuts/seeds in moderation, eat high percentage cocoa dark chocolate (small amounts, occasionally) and drink some alcohol in moderation - dry wine and clear spirits, but no beer/cider or sweet liqueurs.

Bootcamp lasts for 10 weeks; the next one will start mid-January so will finish around mid-March.

I have to say though, I agree with @MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously, you can make a really good start in the next two weeks - even just by cutting out the obvious carbs and not necessarily by following Bootcamp rules.

If you have any questions, just ask away - always happy to help!

Sorry - link to spreadsheet is here

No day like the present! January is a really difficult time to start. If you crack on now you can relax at Christmas and then hit the ground running after. Good luck.

Lyrata · 09/12/2020 19:32

Two weeks until Christmas still! You could be half a stone lighter by Christmas Day.

Suzi888 · 09/12/2020 19:34

I’d start now (I am) Sunday to Thursday no treats. Or by New Years I’ll be a stone heavier! Blush
I’ll start properly in January. Good luck!
