High fat, low carb - is it possible to put on weight?!

I've started on the high fat, low carb diet - my diet is usually really good, but I realised I was sneaking in too many carbs, even healthy carbs, and while petite, I have half a stone (menopausal) that I really want to shift.

My SIL does the ketogenic diet. She uses this incredibly complicated spreadsheet to measure out her foods by gram.

I really can't bear the idea of doing this. So for three days I've stopped eating any carbs, except through nuts and low carb foods (veggies).

I've upped my fats.

I weighed myself today. I'm the heaviest I've been in weeks! I realise it's only been three days and before that I was off the diet wagon, so that could be catching up.

But is it possible that my way is putting on weight? I'm sure I'm within the calorie intake I calculated

Do I really need to weigh everything?

It might help to weigh the food to begin with especially foods like nuts as 100gs of nuts have over 500calories. Once you're used to seeing the weighed food, estimating the grams/calories will become easier without using a scale.

In addition, a 100g of vegetables only has around 50calories which is why you always see it recommended to load your plate with veggies as they'll help you feel fuller and ofcourse because of the nutritious benefits too.

Yes it's always possible to gain weight - as @Monday55 says, nuts are actually pretty high in carbs. And if your portion sizes are too large, your calorie intake will also be too high.

Fat is very high in calories, if you up your intake of that you can end up taking in more than you're burning, in which case yes, you'll gain.

Get over to myfitnesspal and log what you're eating and you'll see where you're going wrong.

However, it's also worth bearing in mind that low carbing is a high fat way of eating!
