How to measure your waist

Just that really. First, I love all the resources here and am "shadowing" the bootcamp as I am little late to sign up (am I?).

Anyway, waist measure being a big indicator of visceral fat, which I want to reduce and one of the reasons for trying low carb (nothing else has made a dent on this belly!).

I am naturally high-waisted, with my thinest point being a couple of inches under my boobs. My waist is 34 inches here. However, an american website on visceral fat said to measure across the top of the hips bones - 40.5 inches here!

If you are consistent in the comparison of your waist, I guess it really shouldn't make a difference. Although hopefully the lower measurement would see the greatest change on a low carb diet. But it is important when doing the waist-to-hip ratio when assessing amount of visceral fat in your body. Where do you advise measuring your waist?

I just measure round the belly button...no way am I including the results of two c-sections in my measurements Grin

I measure round my belly button too.
By the way, I'd be surprised if you were too late- just post in the bootcamp thread and someone will add you to the spreadsheet.

Your 'true' waist is the narrowest point between your belly button and the bottom of your ribs. You could measure your belly button as it's more likely to get the exact same place each time to measure? I measure mine fully breathed in, and fully breathed out if that makes sense?

Thanks! The belly button is midway between my thinnest point and across the hips, so sort of splits the difference and is easy to remember!

You're not too late to join in Smile - people jump in all the time. Just go back and read the Week 1 thread as some of the questions/experiences you may have, may already have been addressed.
