Lard

I'm a bit late to the party- I cut out refined sugar, crisps etc a week ago and started eating three meals a day of fat, protein and veg. I've since found this is extremely similar to the Low-carb bootcamp so will start following the rules of LCHF as so many people seem to have good results.

My question is, is it ok to cook with lard? It's so much cheaper than butter and I don't get paid for another few days!

Lard is great to cook with as it stays stable to a high temperature, much safer than vegetable oil. It can be a good source of vitamin D too.

I can't see what would be wrong with lard. It's basically meat fat. But maybe someone else from Bootcamp can advise?

I use the fat which cooks off pork belly to fry anything with. As well as lard you can use beef tallow which is the fat cooked out of suet. Some might also call it dripping. I would try to use it from the best fed and looked after meat you can find ie grass fed, organic etc
