Re-introducing carbs

Wish I found this section earlier!

Right, I have been low carbing for a while and have reached my target weight. I don't want to lose anymore.
What is the best to re- introduce some carbs (small amounts of potatoes, rice etc). I have never done any carb counting so not sure how to start/build up.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I've reintroduced everything, but am keeping an eye on portion sizes. So am having toast for breakfast, and a sandwich for lunch, and rice/potatoes/pasta for dinner. Plus the odd treat like hot chocolate or cake. Haven't put any weight on for 5 weeks. In fact, folllowing your post, I thought I'd weight myself, and I appear to have lost one pound.

Makes me realise just how much I was eating before! I did low fat low carb (sorry everyone, high fat was too scary and not for me) and went down from 11 2, to 8 13 over 13 weeks. Am having a break now, then will start again to lose the final 6/7 pounds before Christmas. I am only 5 foot 2, so should be lighter than I am.

Well done for reaching your target, and good luck!

Low fat low carb? Why?

RaskolnikovsGarret · 06/09/2017 07:45

Didn't want to eat so much meat, eggs or dairy (fish great) but I love the low carb message. But I get it works well for others. Lclf just worked better for me.

Raskolnikovs thank for your reply.
That is a fantastic weight loss, well done! And great to hear you have maintained it so far.
I think portion control will be the key in my case as well - I used to be a carb addict and pig out on bread, pasta and potatoes but feel like a new person now!

I'd say just increase your carbs gradually. Start one meal at a time, and just keep an eye on your weight. I'd also say not to add carbs to all your meals, as this will quickly add up to a lot of carbs.

The key is to keep a really close eye on things, and not let things slip.

I think maintenance is actually harder than losing the weight! Well done on getting to your target.

Thanks Biwi, great to hear the expert imput!
I don't think I will ever eat carbs 3 x a day again! Will start with a tiny amout and see how it goes.

If you were weighing/measuring I'd say 150g max a day. That's still half what most people have. I won't go back to carbs with every meal. I will probably have potatoes but not pasta and bread. I'm away off that stage yet though. Definitely going to be harder!

BIWI · 09/09/2017 17:47

Dr John Briffa advocates no more than 100g carbs per day, and to aim for not more than 30g at any one meal. If that helps!

I have been on keto and reached my target weight a few weeks ago. Since then I have had bfree gluten free bread toasted some mornings (amazing!)
Also had the odd treat such as fish and chips and ice cream on holiday.
Weight is the same so far.
Good luck with it!

wildthingsinthenight · 09/09/2017 17:52

I plan to see how things go scales wise!

@Raskolnikovs I was wondering what sort of things you ate and if it kept you full?
