Anyone with me?

Last official one was a washout for me so this is my pre-summer BC.

Today so far -

Water
Coffee with cream
Bacon and Eggs

I think you should be aiming to eat at least one portion of veg with each meal. As long as its within the allowed carb count then that's fine. Plus you need to fibre to keep everything moving!!

Yesterday for me:

Brunch: Bratwurst Sausages (super low carb from Lidl!), tomatoes and spinach
Snack: Grated cheese, ham, small portion of nuts
Dinner: Steak with chimicurri sauce, celeriac fries and brocolli

Dinner was so delicious!

Gcalgske · 15/04/2016 22:08

Play I think you are right. I aim for veg at less than 3g carbs/100g.
I'll be on BC for the foreseeable.

Today IF (16/8)
Black coffee with coconut oil,
1 bacon, 1 fried egg, mushrooms, 2 pats of butter melted on the egg.
2x black coffee, small sq dark choc
Small chicken breast 'breaded' in Parmesan, giant plate mixed salad leaves dressed in red wine vinegar, katsu (ish) curry sauce (just curry powder, coconut milk, almond butter, chicken stock)

Kummer some veg are very low carb, for example mushrooms, so you can eat as much as you want, especially if they're cooked with far.

StuntNun · 16/04/2016 06:55

*fat.

BIWI · 16/04/2016 08:25

Kummer there are two answers to your question about veg - the first is, that it depends which plan you're following!

On Bootcamp it's one of the key things that I always say - that you should be getting the majority of your carbs from veg and salad. I know nothing about the Scandinavian diet.

However, the second answer is that it depends.

One of the critical things about low carbing is that there is no, one set amount of carbs that people should eat daily, because we all have different tolerance levels. Some people can eat well over 20g a day without gaining weight, others have to stick firmly to 20g or even go lower.

Unfortunately no-one can tell you how many carbs you need - you'll need to figure it out for yourself and the only way you can do this is by experimenting.

Atkins is a really good approach for this, because you start first with induction, which is 20g carbs per day; on that level you should lose weight. After that you gradually increase your cabs by 5g a day until weight loss stops, or you start to gain weight.

And in terms of fat, there is no need to limit it. What you've listed sounds fine. To be honest, you'll find that you should naturally limit it, as it's hard to eat a lot of fat (certainly in one go!), and as it's also very satiating, you won't be so hungry.

PlayNice · 16/04/2016 10:19

I thinnkkkk I have finally eaten all the fruit I had so I can start trying Bootcamp for real. I was also prescribed sleeping tablets yesterday so that should make saying no to wine a bit easier for the next few weeks!

My breakfast for today will be hard boiled eggs; I have a burger and cauli cous cous for lunch and I think chicken soup for dinner.

flabby81 · 16/04/2016 11:23

Another good low-carb day yesterday

Breakfast: Bratwurst Sausages, mushrooms and spinach in cream cheese
Lunch: Chorizo, a few cubes of cheese, small portion of nuts, cucumber and tomatoes
Dinner: Cheesy scrambed eggs, avocado

Managed to stay away from my usual Friday night wine!!

I'm down 2lbs on the scales too. I know that's just initial water weight but its good motivation none the less!

backonthewagon · 16/04/2016 19:02

flabby81 what is chimichurri sauce?

Kummerspeck · 16/04/2016 20:26

Right. Today I have had:
Greek yoghurt with 4 sliced strawberries and a sprinkle of nut and seed mix
Shared a large mixed salad with leftovers (1 chopped chicken breast and 1/2 a large hotdog sausage), tossed in garlic mayo and topped with a poached egg with DH
Butter chicken (from the IPD cookbook) with spinach and Barenaked rice (made from Konjac)

So far, so good Smile

backonthewagon · 17/04/2016 21:13

Today I have had

lamb and chicken curry
turkey steaks in an mediterranean sauce (tinned tomatoes, celery, mushrooms, leeks, shallots, courgettes, feta cheese, parsley, oregano, basil, black pepper)
yoghurt whipped with frozen raspberries to make a sort of ice cream/frozen yoghurt type thing.

Billionnairewannabe · 17/04/2016 23:35

Hello! Please can I re-join? I

Billionnairewannabe · 17/04/2016 23:38

Oh god I can't even remember how to post properly never mind carb count!!
I'm going to start tomorrow morning - I did they're-cans one & thanks to the wonderful BIWI's advice lost over a stone but I can see it creeping back on so back to boot camp it is!

Billionnairewannabe · 17/04/2016 23:39

Argh...pre-xmas one not re-cans??

BIWI · 18/04/2016 08:30
Grin

Next 'official' Bootcamp will be starting on 16 May - but in the meantime, we're all chatting here, so welcome!

HypodeemicNerdle · 18/04/2016 14:21

Feel like I've had a reasonably good week, it's a steep learning curve but I'm getting the hang of actually eating fat (scary!) and avoiding the bread/pasta/potatoes/cakes/biscuits/crisps etc. I've been a bit rubbish on water consumption so I've upped that today.
I had a sneaky weigh in on the scales this morning (tomorrow should be my first weigh but I couldn't resist!),
I'm down by 4lb in 6 days! I'm loving this Grin

PlayNice · 18/04/2016 22:50

Well done everyone! I'm struggling to get into this. I need to do a shop and get my head in the game. Does anyone have any tips for good LC foods you can batch cook and freeze?

Kummerspeck · 20/04/2016 00:15

Have a look at the Diet Doctor website Play. I have had some nice recipes and ideas from there

WestCoastDreamin · 20/04/2016 10:38

I'm in...I think!

I'm doing my online shop today so hopefully will be well underway by the time it is delivered on Friday - not sure how I will work around carbs until then!

BIWI · 20/04/2016 11:26

Hypo check out the resources on the spreadsheet - look at the tabs on the bottom - there are loads of links to books or blogs or videos that will really explain why fat isn't an issue.

PlayNice have you looked at the recipe thread? It's stickied at the top of the Bootcamp topic. Lots of things there that can be cooked/frozen.

HypodeemicNerdle · 23/04/2016 22:26

Thanks BIWI I will

Found the most delicious snack for my lunch today in m&s, crispy bacon strips, had a few crumbled in my salad then ate more like they were crisps!

WestCoastDreamin · 25/04/2016 10:26

done my first weigh-in since calorie counting Mon/Tue then LCHF from last wednesday and 2.7kg down, yay!

However...I've had a few weird side effects:

  • definitely a bit constipated but when I actually go it's soft (sorry if tmi...)
  • strange lump in throat feeling like there's always a burp there
  • not hungry today at all. Not even a pang. Hadn't eaten despite being up 3 hrs and been a power walk so just ate a cold rasher of bacon for the sake of it!

How is everyone else getting on?

ClopySow · 25/04/2016 18:59

I started last week cutting out obvious carbs but am learning more and more and have been officially low carbing since friday. I'm worried i'm doing it wrong though and am hoping someone can help by telling me how my daily menu looks. I've posted it in the low carb section. Should i repost here? I just don't want to bore everyone to tears posting it everywhere.

lisbapalea · 03/05/2016 10:48

I am back on the interim game until the real BC starts on the 16th. Just the light version for a week or so to get back into the swing. here goes:

B - Greek yog / CoYo / berries / flaked almonds / flax seed / cocoa nibs
Snack - small handful of whole almonds
L - will be salad from work canteen, prob involving tuna mayo and egg
D - not sure yet but fridge is heaving with dark green veg so prob some of that in a frittata with cheese and chorizo

Have had 1.5l of water so far and feel like I am sloshing as I walk....

lisbapalea · 03/05/2016 20:29

Have stuck to the plan for the day! Tempted to have a square of 90% choc while I watch telly....

lisbapalea · 06/05/2016 13:47

a few more days of food to log - find this quite a motivating way to KOKO!

Yesterday:

B - Greek yog / CoYo / berries / flaked almonds / flax seed / cocoa nibs
Snack - small handful of whole almonds
L - M&S grilled calamari and dip with salad
Snack - a few posh pork scratchings
D - aubergine, mozzarella bake thing with spinach salad + 3 squares of 90% choc

Today:
B - Greek yog / CoYo / berries / flaked almonds / flax seed / cocoa nibs
Snack - small handful of whole macadamias
L - M&S chicken and salad
D - slow cooked pork shoulder with home made coleslaw (celeriac, cabbage, fennel in a mustardy mayo). Will prob have a large glass of red wine too.

Planning a BBQ tomorrow with 97% meat sausages and steaks, with leftover coleslaw.
