2015 January Low Carb Bootcamp - helpful products/brands/foods

I thought it might also be useful to have a thread about products that you have come across that might be helpful for us as we start Bootcamp.

One of my favourite things is shirataki noodles

They're very, very low carb and really great in any kind of noodle dish. At a push, they can be used instead of pasta, although they're really more like a rice noodle.

Anyway, if you come across anything that is especially low carb, why not post it here?

(Please double check the carb count before you post though!)

The zero noodles that are 200g a packet, would they do you 2 servings?

BIWI · 24/01/2015 09:27

I don't really know - it depends what you would serve them with.

These ones are 228g and I'd eat the whole lot.

However, I could see that if you made a huge stir-fry with lots of meat and (low carb) veg, it could stretch to two portions.

Tesco's Finest Toulouse sausages are 0.1g carbs for 2 sausages. They're very tasty! Smile

I may not be with you all this time but I was too ashamed. I always start with good intentions and something gets in the way usually wine. I'm doing a big Ocado shop now and ordering what's on here. Then I'll do my own little bootcamp. I was so upset the day Mortissons stopped selling cauliflower rice. It was such a good idea. I might ring them and find out what happened!

If anyone is having ishoos with having dark chocolate in the house then maybe try sainsbury's taste the difference 85% dark chocolate as it comes in 5 little individual bars - 4.2g of carbs each Grin

The Moser Roth one at Aldi is the same. They also do a 70%. I buy theirs because its gluten free. Very rich and I have never managed more than half a little bar myself. Good job as dark choc in quantity gives me migraine!

Eating the dark choc has shown me though that often its sugar I'm craving and not the actual chocolate. These days I don't often get the big cravings but if its really unmanageable I will resort to a can of something diet like Asda cream soda. Its really sweet and custard-like in flavour. I seldom need more than half a can to set my teeth on edge and, whilst its not BC, its carb free and keeps me from going totally off piste.

I've developed a slight obsession with St Agur Creme - basically a blue cheese dip but only 2.3/100g. Tonight's main supper action has been a pack of raw baby button mushrooms and some very lightly cooked asparagus spears with about half a pot of that. Yum!

holland and Barratt do a range of 'slim pasta, noodles and rice' which are low/no carb

I don't know if this counts as a brand/product, but for anyone that lives in London, Billingsgate Fish Market is incredible for getting some good bargains on fish.

I thought I'd mention it because my meals have become a bit more expensive since cutting out lovely cheap pasta and rice. Now I have a freezer full of nice fish and, (gulp), 1kg of smoked salmon in my fridge.
