Are green smoothies okay with low carb eating?

I never really see them mentioned but I like to have one for my breakfast. I try and use the least carby fruits so tend to just use berries (raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries), along with half an avocado, various greens and some flax and hemp oil. Would that be too many carbs?

No idea! It depends

a) how much fruit/avocado you're using - why not try weighing it and then working out how many carbs?
b) how many carbs you can tolerate without gaining weight

A handful of fruit (just one type per smoothie). Avocado is relatively low in carbs though, right? I agree, I think I'm going to have to measure to find out. I know of people that do Paeleo and have them but realise the rules are slightly different.

Thing is, the carbs can quickly add up, especially when you're making them into a smoothie, so it's probably a good idea to weigh and count them.

Well I weighed this morning. I used:

50g avocado = .085g of carbs
100g rasberries = 5g of carbs
100g spinach = 1g of carbs

So just shy of 7g of carbs. I suppose is quite a bit when you think you can have something else for breakfast that that has no carbs. It's the fruit really isn't it? But it would be totally disgusting without it. I'm a bit torn whether to stop having them or not. I do enjoy them for breakfast and they do fill me up. I guess I have to see if it hinders my weight loss.

7g isn't that much, in the overall scheme of things - and at least you're getting your carbs from fruit/veg!

I've been low-carbing for 6 weeks and often have a smoothie with 100g of frozen berries in for breakfast. I'm still permanently in ketosis according to the Ketostix. My smoothie is full-fat-no-added-crap coconut milk/cream, frozen berries, and a raw egg fwiw. Yum. Don't think too hard about the raw egg as it sounds gross but the protein boost keeps you full.

I was thinking about adding a raw egg too. Might give it a go tomorrow... :)

Mm I fancy a smoothie now!
