Blimey, we've filled up the week 1 thread! BIWI will do a new one for the morning but here's one to keep us going through the evening.

Wow this is great. Just had some yummy roast chicken for dinner with salad. I'm constantly thirsty though and I'm feeling tired this evening with a headache. Ketosis maybe? Also have a metallic taste in my mouth.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 19/01/2014 18:19

captain the pigs' cheeks are from Waitrose and Dp browned them in a pan then put them into the slow cooker with shallots, leeks, garlic and celery. He deglazed the pan with a dash of sherry, added that to the slow cooker with red wine, stock, star anise, thyme, bayleaves, salt and black pepper. He's going to cook it for about 3 hours. He'll reduce the stock down to make a sort of jus and we'll have it with swede mash. Yum!

I am off to the cinema now. Is there anything I can eat there that's LC?

LucyVFood · 19/01/2014 18:26

I'm dreading weigh-in. Don't want to be disappointed although I've stuck to it through the cold from hell.

Is everyone feeling positive??

AthelstaneTheUnready · 19/01/2014 18:32

I'm stealing that recipe Crabby! We don't have a waitrose within a thoooooosand miles [exaggeration] but the local butcher has long since stopped raising an eyebrow at the random offal demands I make of him so will try there instead.

I haven't weighed since my 8lbs down/2lbs up, and don't have any scales now. Think I might try and find some stupidly cheap ones tomorrow and have a weigh on Tuesday morning instead.

anewdispensation · 19/01/2014 18:36

Thanks crabby. I will keep drinking. Met a friend today who commented on my clear skin and asked if I lost some weight so motivated to keep going Smile

Beautiful walk across (muddy) fields this afternoon in sunshine then even nicer creamy beef curry packed full of veg to trick DS aged 17(!) into eating them, served with cauliflower rice. Yum yum yum!!

SteeleyeStan · 19/01/2014 18:54

Since Athel mentioned local butcher... Do you think they'll laugh me out if I go to ask for bones for making my own bone broth? I do my fair share of chicken carcass boiling and overcooked oxtails, but never actually specifically bought and cooked bones.

German I rely on mineral water and nuts usually. On BC maybe some good quality (low sugar) pork scratchings or beef jerky? Enjoy your film!

Nux · 19/01/2014 19:28

Incidentally, for those with iPads, there is a blog called Nom Nom Paleo with an app you can buy that has loads and loads of recipes. I know Paleo is slightly different but there's lots of crossover and I've found the recipes a good inspiration if I'm feeling stuck.

Currently roasting chicken breasts (skin on and on the bone) with a random chilli/smoked paprika/garlic butter marinade (hope it's nice, I'm craving spicy!) and some brussels sprouts with bacon which is a NomNomPaleo recipe. Think I'll mash half a rather sad looking swede to go with it and put it out of its misery.

StuntNun · 19/01/2014 19:29

German I always take pork scratchings to the cinema.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 19/01/2014 19:42

Steeley, no they won't be surprised. Mine sell all sorts of bits and bobs if you ask, but are never put out on display. The first surprise they ever got was that they had assumed I was asking for things to feed the dogs and cats, not me...

toomuchicecream · 19/01/2014 19:51

Given that a) I started boot camp a week early and b) I'm marking writing - my most hated task ever - would it be very bad of be to have whipped cream with a bit of cocoa powder and a handful of frozen raspberries??

SteeleyeStan · 19/01/2014 20:08

Excellent, thanks Athel. :)

EvaTheOptimist · 19/01/2014 20:54

Sounds lovely Toomuch!

My sneaky daily weighings have shown this week is going well. Except today my nephew cooked Sunday lunch, including puddings, and it would have seemed really petty and mean to have refused the home-made chocolate mousse. So tomorrow's weigh in will be a test of how much difference a pudding makes!

toomuchicecream · 19/01/2014 21:39

Went for some cheese instead on the end. Not the same though, especially as what I wanted was some Lindt chocolate :(

Ruprekt · 19/01/2014 21:42

A good day. SmileSmileSmile

B...yoghurt

L...frankfurter, mushrooms, egg

D...roast chicken, sprouts, broccoli, amaaazing cauli cheese.
Parmesan shortbread and salted butter.

Water, tea.

heliumheart · 19/01/2014 22:12

God this lark is so much harder when you're out at others' house. I was visiting the Home of Crisps today, along with a roast lunch. Reader, I eschewed roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds and stuffing and had a rather sparse plate of roast pork and green veg, along with a slightly suspect gravy.

Then one of my children greedily accepted the offer of a mint Magnum and took one bite before deciding it was horrible; I felt too guilty to just leave it to languish so ate 1/3 of it before subtly disposing. Then felt horribly guilty. Oh and had 2 small glasses of wine. Oh buggery bollocks.

Please let the scales be kind tomorrow! I also have a bare fridge which doesn't help, need to do a mammoth low-carb shop first thing I think, to reignite enthusiasm.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 19/01/2014 22:48

No probs anew. Smile

Athel he's made it before and it's delicious. He based it on a tapas we ate in Seville once which was just meltingly tender with this glossy, rich gravy. If I could have been arsed to take photos as he prepped it I would put it up on my food blog, but I just wasn't feeling up to it this time. Will photograph next time he makes it and post the full recipe.

Our butcher gives DP bones to make stock (and for the dog if she could eat them without becoming obsessive about burying them and then guarding the hole, and without getting squitty diarrhoea for days afterwards Hmm). Ours doesn't sell pigs' cheeks, bizarrely (as he's a very good butcher otherwise) but I think many would sell them.

Admirable restraint there toomuch! Grin
