Going back to work part time. 3 full days or 2 full+ 2 half days?

Have put this thread in the going back to work topic but I'm not getting many replies and, considering I'm a lone parent too I thought you may add some important things that help me decide which hours to work...

We are going through a very difficult divorce. DS is a bit of a mess at the moment so I'm a bit reluctant to put him in after school club for 3 days a week.

Should I ask for 2 full days + 2 half days instead of 3 full? is this a good idea? I know the current situation is not going to last forever (while my hours will stay the same once they are decided).

Which option works better when you are a single parent?

deoends on childcare - i work 80 % but i do 9.30 to 4.30 each day - this means i ca drop dds at school and pick them up from after school club each day. otherwise i would ahve to get post after school club care.

I used to do 3 full days, and changed to 4 part days.
I then dropped a couple of hours and now do 9am - 2pm 4 days a week, still 20 hours but means I can drop off and pick up at school.

I do school pick and drop off 4 days a week.
Work 10-2.30 (have an hours drive each way).

I used to do 3 full days and have a child minder for after school. She was lovely but didn't do homework with ds. Also she was really chatty and it took ages to drag him away. Then I still had all the chores, dinner to cook, school stuff, bath, homework to do on top. Also had to squeeze in after school clubs on my two days off so always felt I was rushing about even on my day at home. Really wasn't great.
However the plus sides were my petrol and parking costs were less, my child care was subsidised, I had two days at home to keep the house in some kind of order.

When my childminder gave up after less than a year (and no other childminder near by), I decided I didn't want to start ds on a road of swapping and changing where he was going to be and with whom.
So I decided to swap my hours to 4 school hour days (had to drop 3 hours overall too). Now I rely on no-one for school drop/pickup, and although it means I am worse off financially it certainly outweighs the negatives of not being here.

Also very lucky to have flexible hours so I can swap my day off to accomodate inset days, sports day etc. And I can work a longer day in the holidays so I tend to only work 3 longs days in the summer, ds goes to a holiday club near work and I bank the extra hours to use as extra time off on top of my 4 weeks holiday as well.
