There is just nothing out there, well nothing that is 16 hours or more anyway.

Everywhere seems to be only offering a few hours a week, with the possibility of more, but thats no good if you are claiming benefits.

I am only looking for minimum wage, low skilled stuff aswell so you'd think it would be easier.

I have been invited to interview for a clinical support worker/housekeeper position

Interview isn't until 14th June, but that gives me lots of time to prepare so thats good.

Oops tis MrsMorgan lol forgot to change name back, although the name is quite apt lol.

A few have mentioned this already, and while it doesn't suit everyone, being self-employed IS an alternative (but that sometimes people don't think they can do).

I was in a situation where I found myself single with 2 very young kids and depression after DD1 - I had to get a job but I needed one that would fit around me, the kids and my bad days so essentially I needed a job that would pay well enough to cover childcare but with a boss who didn't mind me taking time off at the drop of a hat etc.

Decided instead to become self-employed and been doing it ever since - topped up with Child and Tax Credits (will have to see how it pans out now though with new Government!). It's not as secure as having 'a job' to go to, and I miss the banter, but it's flexible and I enjoy it.

Not pitching or advertising, just saying...there are alternatives to explore

Just seen this - congratulations Meglet! Bet you're feeling chuffed at the moment!

And good luck with the interview MrsMorgan I'll be sending you good luck vibes on the 14th!!

MrsMorgan · 06/06/2010 16:45

Thank's cb. I now actually have two interviews on that day, both in the same place and similar jobs.

Hi all, had my two interviews today. The first one wasn't great, the panel made me feel quite uncomfortable and like I answered everything wrong.
Second interview was brilliant, the staff were so nice and it wasn't like an interview at all.

Had a call an hour after the second interview to offer me the job

Should start in about 6-8 weeks, as housekeeper/hca on a ward in a children's hospital. It's 30 hrs a week Mon-Fri. I am so so chuffed to bits lol.

well done MM .

Good suggestion webwahm. I'm not in a position to consider that at the moment but I will bear it in mind for the future.

I start my new job this week, yay!

Now I'm not job hunting I'm going to start checking out adult education / OU / evening courses. I wouldn't mind starting with an extra GCSE or two to pep my CV up so I'm going to see what's available.

i am the same. only started job hunting a few months ago and getting no where. government want me to get job wen child turns 7 (in a year) but there no jobs for me to get

bakerslovecakes · 01/07/2010 10:03

Am in the same situation, been on JSA since last sept and have only had one interview. The job centre expects me to apply for jobs every week but sometimes weeks go by before anything suitable comes up. One advisor even told me one week because i hadnt applied for anything that week, my benefits could be stopped, dont they understand as a parent you cant apply for just any job.
