I need to cook supper to make me feel human - roast chicken - but I can't be arsed.

I have done 2 loads of washing and hung all up, washed the kitchen floor, been to morrisons and done weekly shop, cleared up TWO loads of milk ds threw on the floor (accident both times) bathed dogs, sorted out rubbish bins, hoovered sitting room and lit fire as its fecking freezing here in south west.

Please advise. what I mean is please paint me a nice get-off-arse visual of sizzling roast chicken with parsnips and tatties so I actually do it.

ds asleep at the moment but will be up and noisy any minute. I have got him bacon bits and tomatoes with pasta for tea but am clearly over-stretching myself if I can't be bothered to switch oven on let alone cook two meals.

and no he won't eat chicken

Mmmmmmm, I can just see that chicken, fresh out of the oven, sizzling in the pan, skin bronzed and crispy, flesh hot and juicy....yum! And the potatoes are beautifully crisp on the outside, covered in all the delicious brown sticky goo from the chicken, but they are light and fluffy in the middle. Is there any gravy to go with it?

You have had an unbelievably busy (and productive) day, and I'm not surprised you're exhausted.

Perhaps this is not what you want to hear, but maybe leave roasting the chicken for tomorrow night......if that would be easier for you?

If the chicken is for you, and you're exhausted - why push yourself to make it when you're unlikely to enjoy it?

The nice thing about cooking a roast is it's all in the preparation. Once you peel everything and stick it in the oven then you can just forget about it for an hour and a half.
Then voila! A beautiful roast chicken and veg, wonderful cooking smell in the kitchen - not forgetting the fact you don't have to cook tomorrow as you can eat the leftovers.
mmmmmm

Ooh, I've just taken a roast chicken out of the oven. (I genuinely have). It's resting while I whack up the oven to finish off the roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots. Better not forget the gravy...

I have not got a chicken! I want one!

Unlikelyamazonian · 31/01/2010 16:03

Early, but I so want the blimmin chicken. Hungry. been eating ds's leftover baked beans and scrambled eggs a lot this week

going to "bake shredded white cabbage with cumin seeds" (ooo sounds posh, recipe in paper yesterday) and fry parsnips with something or other, and got 50p sprig of rosemary to do a few roast pots with. But yes it does seem a bit masochistic. Also need to make, concurrently, a shepherds pie for ds's lunches.

I also have a toffee cheesecake. a quid from morrisons.

am losing cooking-momentum again by over-anbalying on MN

arses I know what you mean - the paring and snipping and peeling thing takes a whole lot of effort to face up to. AND YET, is the essence of the whole self-indulgent luxurious process.

peel, snip, wash, prepare, love into life, boil, sniff, admire, watch until tender, keep checking up on, be grateful if they come out well...if a bit buggered and crispy they are still lovely.

admire and eat slowly with mayonnaise.

Just like raising a child,

apart from the eat slowly bit.

{Obviously you crunch them up quickly and wash down with vintage champs}

Unlikelyamazonian · 31/01/2010 18:05

I did it!!!!!!!!!

have made roast chicken with roast potatoes, parsnips and baked cabbage, separate dish of mince with carrots, potatoes and chopped squidged tomato for ds's lunches
