As some of you know I'm currently ahving a battle with XH ashe's not paying all his maintenance. I live in England but am from Scotland originally. X knows (and accets) that if he doesn't pay all his maintenance then I can't afford to live here. Anyway he is being an arse, his GF is a nutcase - kids don't want to see him anymore, I have had the police out to her twice for harassment and she still continues.... etc etc.

Currently i work in my kids primary schoola nd have a PT evening job. I want to finish my teacher training and would love to do the GTP route but that's a bit of a way off - about 2 years. If I move back to Scotland with the kids I could probably start the PGDE this September but obviously won't be able to work as well. What benefits etc would I be entitled to? Does anyone know? Or would I have to somehow cram in 16 hours of work to make sure I got all my tax credits to keep a roof over our heads?
Thanks!!

Ps Don't need anyone to tell me I can't move kids out of England - x won't really give a shit when it comes down to it - and he works in Scotland during the week so my solicitior thinks he won't have much of a case anyway.

hi as far as i am aware, if you are studying full time you would be entilted to full student loan, parents learning allowance, maintanence grant and childcare grant, as well as housing benifit, council tax exemption, plus your child tax credits. i got this for england...dont know about scotland tho. would call student laon company or local eductation authority.
i start my PGCE in september (well next april as its flexible) and have ebbn told i will be entiltled to all that 9 i will by then ihave a 3.5 yr old and a 10/11 month old.

oh and post in student parents...they have a wealth of knowledge.

good luck to you

But also check the rules, there have been some significant changes since October.

when you say "move to scotland"do you mean back with your parents? Because I think that would change what you're entitled to...

thanks guys. I would move back to Scotland but hopefully buy my own house. Think I might have to give up on the teaching for while tho as I'd have to have been resident for 3 years to get anything!
