Isn't it horrible waiting for the DC to come home!

I hate this last half hour, on edge, knowing you have to see ex but happy to see DC, really am struggling with this bit.
Does it get easier in time?

It does get easier. Quick drop offs, and a plan of some sort - my dd is 2.11 so it involves mess/creativeness, but depends on the child - seems to have helped. But like so many things, it is definitely better with time. Oh, and don't overindulge them more than you can help. It's confusing - though it is so easy to need or want to do.

I'm sure it will, but they need to start bedtime routine as soon as they get in, and it all kicks off they are 3.5 and nearly 5

Could you get them dropped off before the routine starts?

I am a step mum and we used to drop the kids back at 4:30 when they were little to fit in with bedtime routines.

It doesn't seem fair that you have to deal with two upset kids.

Drop offs / pick ups should be at times that suit the kids,

Is that possible?

He only sees them on Wed from 5.30-7pm other than weekends.
This is only the third week so I know it is a transitional period, but DD has school in the morning, she gets tired enough from a day at school and she is still crying upstairs

In a way it is my fault, I do not want H here and so have asked him to have them at his, but if this carries on, I think I am going to have to stick it for their sake

Norks, I'm sorry to say, but I think you should allow him to come to yours and have the kids be a bit more settled. He could even help with the bedtime routine.

I know it's hard, but might be better in the long run.

I think you are right, it is just too unsettling for them
mmmm have some thinking to do
