What happened to your Wedding Ring after Divorce?

a question for all lone parents, male or female...
At what stage did you stop wearing your wedding ring? Did you feel bad, or celebrate? What happened to it?

I carried on wearing it for ages, dx bullied me into stopping eventually, and nicked the ring as well.

I dont feel right wearing no ring at my age, and after so many ring wearing years. Its a bit like calling yourself "Miss" when youre 40. So Ive started to wear an old signet ring, its not even gold, on my wedding ring finger.
What I really need is a ring that says "available for marriage, but p**s off if youre just after casual sex"
Is there any recognised code for divorcees?

I've still got my wedding ring somewhere and now wear an engagement ring on the third finger of my left hand (Dp and I haven't got around to getting married yet). In between I was ringless and quite liked it.

dh's was thrown into the sea into Tobago (his one from his ex wife I mean) and I sold mine from my 1st marriage at a car boot for a tenner.

I think it's around somewhere but together with engagement ring we both decided was a bit naff I stopped wearing them ages before we ever thought about spliting up - I think the wedding ring cost something like £9.00 and the engagment ring was more than £50.00..

jasper · 08/06/2005 21:28

Nightynight · 09/06/2005 11:39

Mine had previously been my grandmother's and for this reason I didn't want to get rid of it so I swapped it onto my right hand for a while. Since I got a shiny new ring to go with my shiny new husband, it's just sat in my jewellry box.

Used to keep it in my handbag til my handbag got stolen. It left black marks on my finger so I didn't miss it! Miss my gold/diamond bracelet from lovely dp when I was having ds much more -lost in a shopping centre trying on unsuitable clothes ...
Now wear a big turquoise ring from accessorize and lots of wooden beads

feelingold · 09/06/2005 12:14

Took my rings off about 2 months after ex-h left me when I realised he wasn't coming back.
I had a diamond engagement ring and a hand made diamond and sapphire eternity ring as well as my wedding ring and so I have put them away for our dd and will give them to her when she is 18.

NN - What about a claddagh (sp??) ring - the hands holding a crown? I've got a feeling that if you wear it one way then it means you're available, and the other means you're not.

Means you still get to wear a ring, and it has some significance too.

Nightynight · 09/06/2005 12:33

A claddagh is a lovely idea. Ive got no celtic connections but do love claddaghs. Will look into it next time Im in the UK!

Wait a mo. Isnt a claddagh a traditional gift from someone who loves you? Sniff [wallows in selfpity]

When I broke up with ex-h I took them off immediately they were horrid tat in yellow gold (which I never wear!) which cost about $100Aus for the pair! (yes I'm shallow with jewellery!) Sold them both at a carboot for £1 to a nice old lady

Can't wait to wear my gorgeous white gold wedding ring saturday, we've had it in the drawer with dh2b's for over 8 months!

lunavix · 09/06/2005 13:32

NN you can get them for about £5 from argos

Nightynight · 09/06/2005 13:36

he he, I might love myself that much!

Nightynight,I wear it to keep all the men off. Just kidding.

I wear it because although we are divorced I still think of it as hugely significant.

I am now with someong else (father of my kids). Yes I will always wear it, no I don't think I will ever get married again as it seems to me to be the only absolutely sure way to avoid ever getting divorced again.
