Do CSA payments effect benefits?

I've been single for 4 mths now and had 2 x £10 off my exH for our son, but he kept pleading poverty.

I told him to keep the money and use it instead to buy dvds, toys or clothes for our son, or use it to take him out when he has him at the weekends.
He doesn't take him anywhere, and has bought him nothing. He does however pay £10 a month into his child trust fund.

A few people have suggested i get CSA involved, but others have told me i could end up worse off financially because i receive housing and council tax benefits.

I don't really need the money and i don't want to be petty, part of me thinks i should just take the high road and let it go.

I'm interested to hear of other peoples experiences with the CSA and also whether they think im doing the right thing?

I think it only affects you if you claim income support or JSA. Do you get either of these?

no i get incapacity, disability living allowance, child tax credits and housing / council tax benefits

thanks for your reply

doesnt affect any of thise benefits...rules changed 27th Oct 08.

JSA or ESA income based and Income Support disregard £20 per week and the rest is taken into account.

In short you would receive all the maintenance as you are not on either of those. But make sure it is def Incapacity benefit you receive and not Income Support because you are incapacited.

thanks for that. I'ts def incapacity benefits, not entitled to income support xx
