Need some advice for a friend of mine please

A friend of mine recently split with her partner at the same time as she was due back from Maternity leave. Her son was 8 months at the time. She had to move from quite a distance to move nearer to her family and friends for support as only partners family lived in the other area.

Anyway she didnt know at the time that she could claim tax credits for childcare and as a single mum as well. I then send her a few links and advised her to see CAB offices. She is on a salary of £16000 and gets bout £1100 after tax. She applied immediately for housing benefit and council tax. Was told to find a house first and they might be able to pay about £300 towards it. She finally found a place for £650, very small place but doable for the two of them. got double room and box room for baby.

So she waited until tax credits was sorted and put him with a childminder, which they cover.

Alll she will be getting is £80 child benefit, £100 working tax credit a month and then the childcare cost.

When I looked online it showed that she would qualify for at least a figure for her son as he is under 1, am I right in thinking that?
For that salary is that " a good salary" as a single mum as now £650 will go for rent and then council tax is £125.

Any advice of roughly what she could get and to qualify for help with rent

Thanks

Oh also just thinking her April 08 to April 09 would be much less that £16000 as she has been on Maternity leave since June 08 to End of Feb so that should be calculated on that.

Do they not assist with housing as she didnt have a place at all and they told her to find somewhere first. She then took out a loan to pay fees for agency and deposit and that
