I got my keys yesterday for my 2 bedroomed house i've been giving. not moved in yet hopefully by end month the latest. I was going to go with swallec for electric and gas but when I rang them they said I had to go with the last supplier which is EON because it will take 28 days to do switch over but I haven't got that long as I need electric and gas to do all that decorating and council want to do a electric and gas check when it's puton as soon as possible. so EON will put it on monday.

it's token meters (pay as you go) for them both. what is EON like? good or bad? would you switch to swallec. i'm saying swallec as my mum had that but I have no idea how any of this stuff works, I was hoping £30 a week would cover my electric and gas? is it possible? any tips I'd appreciate thank you x

Hi im on a meter with eon.I have a two double bedroomed flat and its all electric i have storage and electric heaters and use between 15 and 20 pounds of electric a week.

£30 sounds about right for both.

I'm with EDF and have gas/elec meters. Obv, I haven't been able to keep my gas heating on all the time so make sure you have an alternative heater just in case the other meter runs out. IYSWIM.
Also check that you won't be paying anyone elses debts on the meter. I take it you have told EON that you've taken over the property and given them a reading?

As long as you turn lights off, be economical and not have the heating blazing all day, then £30 sounds reasonable to me!

Do you feel you need to have PAYG ? The are dearer than meters and some power providers do a tariff for those on low income (not sure if this would apply to you)

I'm with British Gas on the Essentials tariff, it has taken them from August till a few weeks ago to sort it out (was still paying at the old tariff but got a bill a few weeks ago that back dated it all.

At the moment I'm paying £77 for electric and £59 for gas but the payments should come doen on the next bill

I only have electric. I have a key meter. In the summer I use about £10 a week and in the winter, it's about £15 a week. One weekend I paid £20 for the week, but I was cooking quiet a bit and the washing machine was over worked (I wash at 50 deg).

If you find your electric to high, put a timer on the electric boiler, so the boiler comes on during economy 7 time. If you need warm water or hot water at another time, add that time to the timer. In a past house, I reduced my electric usage drastically by having that timer installed.
