Help :( Chicken pocs

Hi, for the past few weeks dd's (4) has had spots on her face, just pin prick spots which had come and gone. Not really bothered dd too much, i took her to docs and they said its just her skin and as she suffers with excema its related to that.

Anyway, this morning dd said her head really hurts all over and shes a little hot, her temp is 36, not too bad.

I checked her body and she has about 8 spots on her tummy, not like the spots on her face, they look like insect bites but i dont think they are, they arent itching her or bothering her,...

could anyone tell me if it could be chicken pocs???? Or what else

When my DS had chicken pox, he had what I thought were a few insect bites on his tummy

I don't remember him feeling unwell with it, but he was only about 18months old.

The spots go kind of blistery - a bit yellowy on top.

Have you given her some Kalpol?

It does sound similar to chickenpox. Get some calamine aqueous lotion rather than calamine cream as the cream can dry out the skin. Bicarb of soda in bath water worked well on my lo to prevent the itching.

Have a look here: www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/health/chickenpox/
The wickepedia page is good too. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chickenpox

Symptoms for chicken pox before spots are temp and runny nose. The spots should looks like pimples ie over the skin not under. You obv should do the glass test. Temp of 36 is normal. There are loads of viruses at the mo and with some you get a viral rash. Chicken pox does start on the tummy usually though.

I'm afraid you will just have to wait and see how things pan out. As the other have said, calpol too

DC's are often not "noticably" unwell before spots come out IME,in hindsight you canoften recall a tummyache,or feeling a little unwell beforehand, but only very mild.

During the day the spots will change if they are Chicken pox, they will get a watery blister on top usually, once seen never forgotten as very distinctive (although I have seen GP confirm CP with spots that arent blistered.)

If you have Piriton syrup, this also helps if it is CP,helps reduce the "itchiness".

If they are old enough explain about NOT scratching the spots, and put gloves on LO's or make sure they can't get to the spots easily. My DD's have a few scars, where I wasn't so successful.

Sorry to hear that Prettyful - I'm in the same boat. DS, (19 months) has been developing a few spots and one has just turned into a typical blister so it's definitely CP. His cousins have it too and he has been spending a lot of time with them.

The lotion is difficult, I remember that from when DD had to have it. We've got the aqueous cream as the pharmacist told DH it "sticks" better.

Hope DD has a fairly calm night

Hi and thankyou! Sorry your ds has it to! Its horrible! Dd hasnt moved from the sofa since about 1pm Just trying to get her to drnks water. Her temp is 38.5 now and although iv been giving calpol her temp is increasing!

She doesnt want to be bathed, so gona try sponge her head a little if she lets me! Not sure what else i can do, as she feeling freezing cold and wants to be wrapped up in a blanket!

Hope your ds is alrigth xxx

He's quite comfortable so far, thanks. His little hands were a bit cold earlier and I am expecting an atrocious night as he doesn't sleep well at the best of times.

It's so unfair that your poor DD is so ill at this time of year. My son is too young to have any Christmas expectations or the feeling of anything being spoiled.

Keep us posted

Would she put a little on herself maybe,if she'll do that, maybe she'll let you do the bits she can't reach?

Ibuprofen/Nurofen is often better for controlling Temps.

She'll feel better soon,i think sometimes its a "shock" to see spots etc.as they have no real experience of being ill.
It does pass quickly, and you'll feel "caged in" with a DC that is bouncing around normally

I spent nearly a month cooped up indoors with my 2 DD's!!
