Being the only adult around when dc are ill sucks

Just that really.

I was up with ds nearly all night, and am not hopeful for a great night tonight either. The whole thing makes me feel really on edge too.

Xp was shite at lots of stuff, but he did always help out with ill kids, although he moaned alot about it.

I am just sat here waiting for ds to either cough, throw up or for one of the other two to come down with it.

You poor thing - hope your fears aren't realised! My dh is working away all week so it's just me and I have to say when dd3 was sick all over him on Saturday my first thought was -'at least it's not during the week when I'd have to do it all' To be facing that all the time must be very stressfuk and I can see why you feel on edge. Are you at work during the day or can you nap if ill child does?

Mercy · 08/12/2008 20:07

Oh crap

If it's any consolation (and I'm sure it's not) I've just had to carry/drag dd, ds and dh upstairs.

harpomarx · 08/12/2008 20:08

my sympathies, ib. Even worse when you are all ill. had an awful time when both dd and I had flu/sinus infection

hope tonight is not as bad as last night.

chocolatemummy · 08/12/2008 20:09

I feel for you, its exhausting when they are ill isnt it. I am not on my own but feels like it most of time, its always me who tkes the time off, always me who gets up in night because he will 'pretend' not to hear her, she is 5 now and its always been like this, he is greta in most other ways but the actual emotional stuff and night times is non existent

cheekysealion · 08/12/2008 20:10

not nice.. although i am not so bad when they are ill...

but really hate me being ill and not being able to rest as i am the only one to look after them... like this weekend

IllegallyBrunette · 08/12/2008 20:11

Oh that sounds shite Mercy.

From what I have heard today there are alot of kids off school with this right now, 3 in this road including my ds.

I am just jealous that they all have other halves to take over whilst they have a bath, nap, whatever.

I am hoping and praying that dd2 doesn't get it as it is her birthday on Friday, and on Saturday I am supposed to be taking her and a friend to the teddy bear factory and then back here for a x-factor party and sleepover.

Luckily I am not ill aswell, well have the tail end of a cold.

I am getting increasingly scared to death of sick bugs though since I had that awful one at xmas.

Yes it's crap but nowhere near as crap as it must be for you.

I was talking to anohter mum (working almost fulltime but lone) earlier today - one of her dc has been off school for 2 weeks with this weird infection. She's really struggling atm

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 08/12/2008 20:29

oh god tell me about it - I can sympathise greatly - had all 3 of mine ill in the last couple of weeks.

Firstly about 3 weeks ago on a Thursday (well started Wednesday night) I had DS2 up all night coughing really badly, took him to the Doctors, was having an asthma attack - steroids and inhalers and he was better really quickly.

Then the Sunday night I had DS3 (18 months) up all night, took him to the Drs monday morning, asthma attack, given steroids and inhaler (after nebuliser at the clinic and referral to the Community Paediatric Nurse), got home to find a message on my answer machine - DS1 wasn't well could I come and get him from school. Afternoon CPN came round to see how DS3 was, assessed him, then looked at DS1 and said he needed to be seen. Back off to the doctors again - came within a whisper of both DS1 and DS3 being admitted to hospital because of low oxygen levels (DS1 was down to about 88/89 at one point!). I did joke though that if I was going to have a child in hospital better to have 2 at the same time as it would lessen the childcare problems

Then was at the doctors again this last week with DS3 this time with chest infection.

I don't sleep well as it is, and the lack of sleep totally buggered me (and I'm now full of a stinking cold too).

Sorry - totally hi-jacked your thread there- but yes it's totally shit and I sympathise greatly.

IllegallyBrunette · 09/12/2008 09:22

Crikey FAQ that sounds shite.

I am lucky at least that xp lives close enough for him to take over the school run on days like this.

Thankfully we had a peaceful night last night and I did manage to sleep.

Ds is alot better today, temp is right down, but I am having a HUGE struggle to get him to take his ab's as he hates the taste.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 09/12/2008 09:41

Glad your DS is feeling better today - I have problems getting DS3 to take antibiotics - strange child likes the taste of disolvable steroids (horrible bitter stuff), but dislikes the nice sweet tasting antibiotics .

Hope he continues to get better and you get more sleep again tonight

IllegallyBrunette · 10/12/2008 09:50

I had a nightmare night last night, was up at least every hour because ds just couldn't stop coughing. Oh and his temp has come back although not as bad as before.

I feel like a zombie today and have shouted at both dd's for no particular reason before they went off to school

Oh and I seem to be literally falling apart. I have a patch under my left arm that is like a burn. I have no idea what it is or where it has come from but it is red raw and hurts alot. The skin there just seems to be disintergrating.

poorly kids is rough, even worse if you are feeling poorly too.
would be nice to have someone else to take turns at the up all night stuff and cleaning up vomit.
sickness bug is my worry, i don't do sick very well and i know i will have to do it on my own.

mankymummy · 10/12/2008 10:43

me too... i have really poorly DS with flu, fever, conjunctivitis and a really awful cough... and I have it too.

and i have library books overdue, the buggy is broken and there's no way DS would walk even if he wasnt ill so will get another fine i can't afford.

sob....

IllegallyBrunette · 10/12/2008 10:51

I feel the same about sick bugs OJ, but thankfully I seem to just go into automatic pilot if one of them are sick. I then lie there panicking that I will be sick.

Last night I lay there, and every time I shut my eyes ds started coughing, and so i'd open them and he'd stop and so it went on for hours and hours with me lying there with big fat tears rolling down my face

It is crap when you can't get out MM. I have been in the house since Sunday morning and am starting to go a bit crazy now.

mankymummy · 10/12/2008 10:55

oh illegallybrunette... poor you, tiredness is so awful isnt it? espec. when you know you have another day to face the next morning.

bozza · 10/12/2008 10:59

maknymummy can you ring up to renew the library books or, even better, renew them online - that's what I do. One less worry then.

mankymummy · 10/12/2008 11:01

thanks bozza... done that 3 times already so am at my limit. might ring them up and sob on the phone and appeal to their better nature !

bozza · 10/12/2008 11:13

Worth a try.
